Pickles Cube Mastering on SoundBetter

I want your music to sound exactly as you envisioned. After all, that's all that matters really right?

One of my favourite things about mastering is the chance to listen to something in it's entirety and work with it as a whole. I'm always looking to enhance what is there and bring out the details and nuances of the music I'm hearing. It's often the subtle things that can be the most moving and it's these elements I try to focus on.

Mastering can sometimes be seen as something that is non-creative or solely technical. It has an aura of mystique to it and I'm keen to dispel this. For me, it is a vital part of the creation of music, no less important than the recording or the mixing process, and is a chance to really add something to your release; to help it to stand out from the crowd.

I see music creation as a deeply collaborative process and to me, mastering is no exception to this. I'm extremely proud to be able to work closely with all the artists whose music I have mastered. It's a true honour to get to add these finishing touches to so many musician's work.

With almost 10 years of experience working in Pro Audio, I would love to work with you on your next release. Feel free to message with any questions you may have.

I have been working with Nick consistently for many years, across numerous projects and genres, and have always found him to be an engineer of the utmost diligence. His attention to detail and artistic sensitivity make him not only a superb mastering engineer but also one of the finest human beings you’re ever likely to meet. He has become my absolute first choice and I can’t recommend him highly enough!

Interview with Pickles Cube Mastering

  1. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  2. A: Trust your gut and listen to your instincts. It will all work out in the end :)

  3. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  4. A: Anything really but mostly electronic, techno, indie, rock and pop.

  5. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  6. A: I really care about all the music I work on. I want your music and your songs to succeed and reach the audiences they deserve!

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: I like to listen to the song first. Sound obvious, but it's so important to understand exactly what the music is conveying and how the songs (if there's multiple being looked at) sit and work together. After this, most music goes through my analogue Terry Audio CEQ and some of the various plugins I use to really enhance what is there.

  9. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  10. A: It's a wonderful space set in South East London. Full of analogue and digital hardware, everything has been specifically chosen because it is either sonically accurate, creatively inspiring or both!

  11. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  12. A: I'm a huge fan of Mat Colton and Katie Tavini. Fantastic mastering engineers and great people

  13. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  14. A: I predominantly master but often take time to help people sign off on their music and get it ready for release.
