I want you to deliver the most creative, life like, and vibey Pop mix possible all at a rate you can afford. When I think of mixing Pop I think about pulling the best parts of a track all while giving the vocal center stage. My goal is to not just hear your vision, but mix your track in way where you feel it as well. Vibe is key to a good mix.
I worked for 3 years at Henson Recording Studios. Assisting alongside some of the biggest engineers, producers, and songwriters in the game. I learned from the very start of my career the professional and sonic demands of this industry. After my stint at Henson Recording Studios I went on to be an Audio Engineer for Unsub Records (subsidiary of Capitol Records). Recording songwriting sessions for Pop artists signed to the label. Often times my day 1 rough mixes would be requested to be stemmed out and sent to the producer of that days session so they could recreate the day 1 mix as they continued to work on the session after the song was recorded. That's where my love of Mixing began. Mixing really comes down to nailing the vibe for me. Understanding what an artist or producer is looking for when it comes to a mix is absolutely key to making everyone happy. My mixing process is pretty simple. I identify the focal points of each section of the song and work from there. Sometimes I dial in the Vocal, Kick, Snare, and Bass before anything else. Sometimes I dial in the entire instrumental first. Creating a lush world for the vocal to then live in. On top of Mixing I do have a deep love for producing. All of my sound demos are songs I wrote, mixed, mastered, and produced. If you have a song you've started that needs a little help I'd love to step in and finish the Production and Mix

Interview with Barklie Griggs
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Who inspires you? What made you fall in love with music? I'd love to hear about how your musical subconscious developed. For me it was a love for Hip Hop in my youth, getting more into indie music in my late teen years, and eventually finding a love for Pop musi as I got into the industry. What's your time frame and what's a realistic reference track you want your mix to sound like? Having a solid reference track makes everything smoother and I can work faster.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: This is honestly a hard question.. I'd really love to work with The Weeknd. I feel like I really wouldn't feel any pressure to deliver. I think I'd just produce something for him he'd really like. Like if you stuck me in the studio for 48 hours I'd have like 20 different ideas. Him or Jason Derulo lol. Jason's production just sound like they'd be so fun to work on. I wouldn't want to randomly work with a big star out of nowhere unless I'd have fun.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Start creating a song with just hi hat, kick/snare, and bass. You'll come up with some super interesting bass parts that really drive a song as opposed to supporting it.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop music in all forms. I love everything from top 40 to psychedelic indie pop. That being said my approach to modern music is pretty similar across genres but for Pop music it really comes down to the vocals. I try and make the best choices sonically with my vocal chain and the best choices creatively with my reverb and delay sends.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: For production it's 100% my arrangement skills. I can sculpt an amazing foundation to build off of by laying out the song in a way that makes sense but also best serves it. For mixing it's 100% my approach to processing the important elements while subtracting what's clashing from the supporting elements, creating a balance between all the elements while making each element sound better.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I try and get a balance of the most important elements of each section, verse, pre, chorus, and then try to bring to life all the supporting elements. Giving each of them their own space in the mix. I do this this though a mix of various techniques but I'm a nut for mutliband process, the technique of only processing certain frequencies of an instrument (think only distorting the sub harmonics on a synth bass instead of the entire bass itself).
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a dedicated room at my place for my Mixing set up. Very clean conversion starting off with the Lynx Aurora. This was one of the converters used on Daft Punk's Random Accessories Memories. It's seriously top of the line, clean A/D and D/A conversion. No compromises there. This feeds into my pair of HEDD Type 20 Mk2 monitors. These monitors are considered a flat, mid focused monitor, They are a 3 way design so they offer a full scope of the frequency spectrum. Theres a tweater for the high frequencies and a dedicated driver for the low and mid frequencies. In my opinion they are the most underrated studio monitor brand on the planet. My Lynx interface also has 2 high quality headphone amps that power my Audeze MM-500s. These are a top of the line, mid focused headphone designed specifically for mixing. I mention both my headphones and monitors being mid focused because they have a very similar sound profile which makes switching between the two seamless.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Artist? Kevin Parker, BROODS, THEY., Johnny Yukon, Joji, Dominic Fike, Flume, The Weeknd, Southstar, Billie Eilish, Peggy Gou, Headache, Maggie Rogers, girl in red, Gorillaz, Halsey, Gesaffelstein. Producers? Tommy English, Ian Kirkpatrck, Ilangelo, Max Martin, Vegyn, Stargate, Frank Dukes.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Great pop mixes! Pop is my specialty but Hip Hop is what got me into making music. Any genre where you have a specific sound or vibe in mind I can deliver. I can also elevate any demo to a full production, including a Mix and Master. If you are interested in me working on a production for you the best thing to do is message me and set up a call. Even if you're just curious I won't mind you messaging me to see if us wokring together would be the right fit. Only so much can be communicated via a text box online so please don't hesitate to reach out.
