  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: As someone who has traversed the traditional engineer path, working my way up in a large music studio in LA, I've had the privilege of experiencing the impact of analog processes firsthand. There's a certain magic to the warmth and character that analog equipment brings to music production, and I deeply respect its place in shaping the sonic landscape. However, as the industry evolves, so too does my approach. While analog processes undoubtedly hold their value, I find that the vast majority—around 90%—of my workflow benefits the most from the digital side. The flexibility, efficiency, and precision offered by digital tools have revolutionized the way I work, allowing me to achieve results that were once only possible through analog means, but now with greater speed and accuracy. For me, it's not about choosing between analog and digital, but rather leveraging the strengths of each to enhance the creative process. By embracing the best of both worlds, I'm able to craft productions that honor the rich heritage of analog while harnessing the power and versatility of digital technology to push boundaries and exceed expectations.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: I promise to wholeheartedly dedicate myself to transforming your raw ideas into captivating productions that truly resonate with your audience. With a keen understanding of your unique vision and style, I'll work tirelessly to ensure that every aspect of the music reflects your authenticity and leaves a lasting impact. Together, we'll embark on a collaborative journey where creativity knows no bounds, and the end result is nothing short of extraordinary.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: My favorite thing about being a music producer is the transformative process of taking raw ideas and shaping them into productions that truly resonate with people. There's something incredibly rewarding about collaborating with amazing artists and witnessing how our combined efforts can create music that deeply impacts others. It's the ability to turn creative concepts into tangible expressions that evoke emotions and connect with listeners on a profound level that I find most fulfilling.

  9. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  10. A: Given my strengths as a music producer, certain misconceptions may arise when others interpret my approach to music production. Here are a few potential misconceptions to consider: Overreliance on Technology: Due to my futuristic strength and constant exploration of new sounds and technologies, some might assume that I prioritize technology over traditional musical elements. They might perceive my music as overly experimental or lacking in authenticity, assuming that I rely too heavily on cutting-edge technology rather than focusing on timeless musical principles. Perfectionism: My restorative strength may give the impression that I'm overly critical or perfectionistic in my approach to music production. Others might perceive me as nitpicky or overly focused on fixing minor flaws, potentially hindering the creative flow or spontaneity of the process. They may mistakenly believe that I prioritize technical perfection over artistic expression. Resistance to Feedback: My strong learner mindset might lead others to believe that I'm resistant to feedback or unwilling to acknowledge areas where I can improve. They might perceive me as overly confident or closed off to suggestions from others, assuming that I believe I already know everything there is to know about music production. This misconception could hinder collaborative efforts and limit opportunities for growth and development.

  11. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  12. A: As you browse through my page, consider these three key questions: What is your artistic vision for this project? What are your primary goals and objectives? What is your budget for the project? Rest assured, these questions are just the starting point. Your creative journey with me will naturally lead to more nuanced inquiries as we delve deeper into your vision together!

  13. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  14. A: If you're considering collaborating on a project, I'd love to share some advice to help you make the best decision possible. First and foremost, I want you to know that your vision and musical style are incredibly important to me. Before we dive into any details, take some time to define what you want to achieve with your music. Whether it's a specific sound you're after or a particular vibe you want to capture, your vision serves as our guiding light throughout the entire process. Now, when it comes to finding the right music producer for you, I encourage you to do your research. Take a listen to my portfolio and see if my previous work resonates with you. Pay attention to the quality of the productions, the diversity of styles, and how well the artists' visions shine through in each track. Communication is key in any collaboration, so don't hesitate to ask me questions. Whether it's about my process, my experience, or how I approach music production, I'm here to provide you with all the information you need to feel confident about working together. But beyond all the technical stuff, what matters is trust and connection. I want you to feel comfortable expressing your ideas and preferences openly. Your music is deeply personal, and I understand how important it is to honor that. Together, we'll create a safe and supportive space where your creativity can flourish. So, if you're ready to embark on this musical journey together, let's connect. I'm excited to learn more about your vision, your passion for music, and how we can bring your ideas to life in the studio. Looking forward to the possibility of working together!

  15. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  16. A: My musical journey began at the age of 16 when I decided to learn the guitar. What started as a simple curiosity quickly turned into an obsession, fueling my first aspiration to become a performer. Initially, I applied to college as a performance major, but fate had other plans, leading me to the captivating world of music production. College in Saint Paul, MN, proved to be the perfect stepping stone for someone like me, hailing from Northern Wisconsin and largely exposed to the music industry through the internet. Armed with a bachelor's degree in audio engineering, I took a leap of faith and moved to Los Angeles on a whim. In LA, I found myself immersed in the vibrant music scene, landing a runner position at one of the city's largest remaining studios. It was an exhilarating time, and I had the privilege of working with a diverse array of artists, including household names and rising stars. During my tenure as an assistant engineer from 2015 to 2019, I had the opportunity to collaborate with an impressive list of artists in various genres, including hip-hop, pop, rock, and electronic music. From studio sessions with the likes of Paul McCartney, John Mayer, and Justin Bieber to contributing to movies and TV shows like "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Blackish," every experience enriched my understanding of music production and storytelling. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic struck, it brought about a period of reflection and transformation. Forced to return home to Wisconsin temporarily, I seized the opportunity to delve deeper into songwriting and music production. As the pandemic unfolded, I found myself pulled towards a new path, one that prioritized my passion for creating music. It was during this time of upheaval and introspection that I came to a profound realization: my true calling lay in becoming a full-time music producer for artists across diverse genres. Since 2020, I have actively pursued my passion for music production, honing my skills and exploring new creative avenues. With each project, I am driven by a deep sense of purpose and dedication, committed to bringing artists' visions to life through my unique blend of technical expertise and artistic flair. As I embark on this ongoing chapter, I am excited to continue pushing boundaries, forging meaningful connections, and making a lasting impact in the world of music.

  17. Q: How would you describe your style?

  18. A: My music production style is a dynamic blend of pop sensibilities, electronic textures, and emotive storytelling. Inspired by a diverse array of artists ranging from The Chainsmokers and Illenium to Julia Michaels and Taylor Swift, I strive to create music that is both sonically captivating and emotionally resonant. Drawing from the infectious hooks and polished production of pop music, I infuse my tracks with catchy melodies and memorable lyrics that stick with listeners long after the song ends. At the same time, I incorporate elements of EDM, harnessing pulsating basslines, euphoric synths, and driving rhythms to craft immersive sonic experiences that transport listeners to euphoric highs. In addition to mainstream influences, I'm also inspired by indie artists such as LANY and Sasha Sloan, who bring a raw authenticity and vulnerability to their music. This influence is reflected in my willingness to explore introspective themes and experimental sounds, adding depth and dimension to my productions.

  19. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  20. A: I primarily focus on Pop and EDM genres, but my work encompasses a diverse range of musical styles and influences. Within the Pop genre, I'm drawn to its dynamic nature, blending catchy melodies, infectious hooks, and polished production elements to create music that resonates with a wide audience. I enjoy exploring the nuances of Pop subgenres, whether it's crafting upbeat and energetic tracks for the mainstream market or delving into more experimental and indie-inspired sounds. In the realm of EDM, I thrive on the electrifying energy and boundless creativity that the genre offers. From pulsating bass lines to euphoric synths and driving rhythms, EDM allows me to push sonic boundaries and create immersive experiences for listeners. Whether it's crafting festival-ready anthems, atmospheric chill-out tracks, or infectious dance-floor bangers, I relish the opportunity to experiment with different electronic textures and production techniques. Ultimately, my goal as a music producer is to create music that not only captivates listeners but also resonates on a deeper emotional level. Whether it's crafting radio-friendly hits or underground club anthems, I'm dedicated to bringing artists' visions to life and making a lasting impact in the ever-evolving world of music.

  21. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  22. A: Well, if I had to pick one, I'd say my strongest skill as a music producer is my problem-solving abilities. Coming from a background in audio engineering, I've spent countless hours troubleshooting technical issues and finding creative solutions to keep projects on track. Those 16-hour days weren't just about putting in the time; they were about mastering the technical aspects of music production. So, when challenges arise - whether it's a tricky software glitch or a creative roadblock in the arrangement - I'm equipped to handle them swiftly and effectively. I thrive on finding innovative solutions that keep the momentum going and ensure we deliver the best possible result. Ultimately, my commitment to problem-solving means that nothing stands in the way of bringing your vision to life. It's a skill I take a lot of pride in, and I'm excited to put it to work for us in creating something truly special together.

  23. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  24. A: As a music producer, my contribution to a song is varied and nuanced, combining my unique taste and perspective with a deep respect for the artist's vision. Distinctive Sound and Perspective: I infuse each song with my own distinct sound and perspective, adding layers of creativity and innovation that elevate the music. Drawing from my experience and expertise, I bring a fresh perspective to the table, enriching the song with unique sonic textures and arrangements. Respect for Artist's Vision: Central to my approach is a profound respect for the artist's vision. I work closely with the artist to understand their intentions, preferences, and aspirations for the song. By prioritizing open communication and collaboration, I ensure that every decision aligns with the artist's creative vision, fostering a sense of ownership and authenticity throughout the process. Awareness of Current Trends: While staying true to the artist's essence, I also maintain a keen awareness of current trends and industry standards. By keeping abreast of what resonates with audiences today, I integrate elements that are relevant and impactful, enhancing the song's commercial appeal without compromising its artistic integrity. Preservation of Artistic Uniqueness: Importantly, I am committed to preserving what makes the artist's work unique. Amidst the ever-evolving landscape of music, I strive to honor the artist's individuality, ensuring that their voice shines through authentically. By celebrating their quirks, strengths, and idiosyncrasies, I help amplify their distinctiveness, setting their music apart in a crowded market. In essence, my role as a music producer is to blend my creative expertise with the artist's vision, resulting in a harmonious synthesis that resonates with audiences while staying true to the essence of the artist's identity.

  25. Q: What's your typical work process?

  26. A: As a music producer, my work process is driven by a commitment to the creative journey, from initial idea to the excitement of sharing our work with audiences both online and offline. Understanding the Artist: Before diving into the music, I prioritize building a rapport with the artist. Understanding who you are as an artist is crucial to our collaboration. Through conversations, I aim to establish a strong connection because I've found that a good match from the outset sets the stage for an enjoyable creative process. Listening and Vision Sharing: Once we've established a connection, I'm eager to hear the music you envision sharing with the world. Whether it's a polished demo or a raw recording, every piece of music is welcome. Even a simple phone-recorded melody during our meeting can spark inspiration. By listening closely, I discern the potential direction of the song and begin to articulate my vision. Our collaboration progresses only when we're aligned in our creative vision. Initial Solo Work: With a clear direction in mind, I embark on one of my favorite parts of the process: working on the song independently. This solo phase allows me to explore and express my ideas freely, shaping the song according to our shared vision. Within a week, I present you with my initial iteration, marking the beginning of our collaborative journey. Collaborative Refinement: This stage marks the start of our collaborative back-and-forth. We exchange feedback, ideas, and revisions, ensuring that every decision aligns with your artistic vision. Through this iterative process, we refine the song together, each contribution enriching the final product. Achieving Your Vision: Our collaboration continues until we've collectively sculpted the song to your satisfaction. Together, we navigate every twist and turn, overcoming challenges and celebrating breakthroughs. The end result is a song that resonates deeply with your artistic identity and captivates listeners. By following this structured approach, I ensure that every step of the journey is infused with creativity, collaboration, and a relentless pursuit of excellence!

  27. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  28. A: Deliberate, adaptable, and streamlined. My modest home studio is equipped with the essential in-the-box tools necessary for crafting contemporary productions. At this stage, my emphasis is on exceptional monitoring and potent plugins and digital instruments rather than investing in a sprawling commercial space. Should the occasion arise, I have the flexibility to collaborate with colleagues to secure affordable live rooms for any additional recording needs.

  29. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  30. A: I have the most adoration for Drew Taggart & Alex Pall of The Chainsmokers because of their ability to mold immensely catchy pop hooks and songwriting with exceedingly polished music production that pulls from both pop and various electronic genres.

  31. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  32. A: Daily, my primary work involves transforming the raw demos and voice memos of my artists into polished records that resonate deeply with both the artists themselves and their dedicated fanbase!
