Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

A: One project that holds a special place in my heart is a collaboration with the Berlin-based duo, Melodiam. The genesis of this project stemmed from a melody swirling in my mind, longing for the ethereal touch of a feminine voice. Upon sharing this idea with Melodiam, they resonated with the vision, and thus, our creative journey began. In this endeavor, I assumed multiple roles, wearing the hats of composer, arranger, recording engineer, and mixer. Crafting each layer of the song allowed me to infuse it with my creative essence.

Q: What are you working on at the moment?

A: I'm mixing some songs of mine and producing new ones.

A: Both. I like to take the best from each world and combine them into something unique.

A: What I cherish most about my work is the privilege of immersing myself in the world of music every single day. There's an unparalleled joy in being able to devote my time and energy to something that brings me endless fulfillment and passion.

Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

A: One potential misconception about my role in music production could be the assumption that it's solely about technical expertise and equipment. While technical proficiency and gear certainly play a significant role, there's much more to it than meets the eye. Music production is an intricate blend of artistry, creativity, and collaboration. It's about understanding the emotional essence of a song, capturing its essence, and bringing it to life in a way that resonates deeply with listeners. Additionally, there may be a misconception that the process is quick and straightforward when in reality, it often involves countless hours of experimentation, refinement, and meticulous attention to detail.

Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

A: What is the vision or concept behind the project? What are your musical influences or inspirations? Examples of songs or artists whose sound you admire What is your timeline for completing the project? Do you have any specific requirements or preferences regarding instrumentation, style, or genre? Are there any deadlines or milestones we need to consider? Have you already recorded any tracks, and if so, what is the current state of the recordings? Are there any particular elements of the mix or production that you feel are crucial to get right? What are your expectations regarding communication and collaboration throughout the project?

Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A: Defined Vision: Before reaching out to a provider, take the time to articulate your vision for the project. Clearly define your goals, preferences, and expectations, including musical style, desired outcome, and any specific requirements you may have. Communication is Key: Effective communication is essential throughout the entire process. Be open and transparent about your needs and preferences, and don't hesitate to ask questions or seek clarification if needed. A: Probably there is no electricity there, so: a kick, a snare, a hi-hat, a kick pedal, and a pair of sticks!

Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

A: My musical journey commenced at the age of 13 in the halls of a conservatory in my hometown. It was there that I first discovered my passion for drumming, a love affair that has persisted throughout the years. As I matured, so too did my musical tastes, leading me down the path of electronic music production. Diving headfirst into the world of electronic music opened up a universe of sonic possibilities, allowing me to experiment with beats, melodies, and textures in ways I had never imagined. It was through this exploration that I uncovered the art of music production, honing my skills in crafting soundscapes that captivate and inspire. As my proficiency in production grew, I found myself drawn to the intricate art of mixing. Delving deep into the nuances of audio engineering, I discovered a passion for sculpting sound, meticulously refining each element to perfection. Now, armed with a blend of technical expertise and creative vision, I collaborate with artists from all walks of life, lending my skills to help bring their musical dreams to fruition.

A: I'd say it's characterized by its sharpness. I gravitate towards crisp, defined sounds that pack a punch while maintaining a tight, controlled quality.

A: The prospect of collaborating with the Dewaele brothers at the Deewee studio is incredibly enticing, and it's easy to see why. Their visionary approach to music production, coupled with the unparalleled atmosphere of the studio, creates an environment that sparks creativity and pushes artistic boundaries. Working alongside such esteemed artists would not only be an opportunity to learn and grow as a producer but also a chance to contribute to a legacy of groundbreaking music. A: A valuable production tip: periodically solo your drums/percussion and other instruments. This allows you to pinpoint subtle details that may be obscured when everything plays together.

A: My expertise spans across a diverse spectrum, covering everything from rock to electronic genres. Whether it's pop, soft-rock, alternative rock, hard rock, percussive beats, folk melodies, techno, electro, or even more niche styles like electro-folk or electronic cumbia, I've got you covered. No matter the genre, I bring a passion for music and a dedication to crafting exceptional sounds.

A: My standout skill? It's all about the details. Once the major elements are in place, I thrive on fine-tuning every aspect until it's just right. I'm not one to settle easily – I'll keep polishing until every detail shines.

A: What I offer to a song is more than just technical prowess; it's a deeply creative journey. Mixing isn't just about making things sound correct; it's about uncovering the hidden energy and soul nestled within each track. Q: What's your typical work process?

A: My approach begins with a vibrant dialogue with my clients, where we dive into their aspirations and musical influences. By sharing references and aligning our visions, we chart a course for the sonic journey ahead. As the mixing process unfolds, I immerse myself in the intricacies of each track, meticulously fine-tuning every nuance. From subtle tweaks to seamless transitions, I ensure that each element shines with clarity and cohesion, preserving the integrity of the original recordings. When the mix begins to take shape, I turn to our agreed-upon references, using them as guiding stars to steer the sound toward the client's desired destination. It's a collaborative dance, where creativity and communication intertwine to bring their vision to life.

Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

A: In my dual-purpose studio and rehearsal space, you'll find a stunning Tama Starclassic Bubinga drum kit accompanied by a variety of Zildjian cymbals and three snare drums. Alongside acoustic instruments, I offer an array of electronic gear including synthesizers, drum machines, and percussion instruments, alongside two guitar amps (Fender and VOX) and a Fender Bassman amp. For recording, I utilize the Tascam Model 24, bridging analog and digital realms for a seamless blend. Mixing is executed with precision using Yamaha HS-8 monitors and Ollo Audio headphones, supplemented by revered hardware including FET compressors, the iconic 1176, and Pultec EQs, as well as an arsenal of esteemed plugins from Arturia, Eventide, Waves, and more.

Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

A: One of my favorite music labels is DEEWEE – the epicenter of sonic wizardry nestled in the heart of Ghent, Belgium, the creative stronghold of Soulwax/2ManyDJs. Every creation that emanates from this esteemed label carries with it an unmistakable aura of brilliance. It's as if each note and beat has been lovingly crafted within the hallowed walls of their studio, resulting in a sound that transcends the ordinary and ventures into the realm of the extraordinary. As a devotee of rock myself, I find solace and inspiration in the sounds of bands like Tame Impala, whose psychedelic odysseys whisk listeners away to otherworldly realms. The transcendent melodies of Kikagaku Moyo, the electrifying energy of De Staat – each band a beacon of creativity in a sea of musical conformity. And the list goes on, a testament to the endless wellspring of inspiration that fuels our musical journeys.

Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

A: My primary focus lies in collaborating with artists who are seeking meticulous mixing services, and occasionally, I delve into production as well. Among my notable credits are songs I've both produced and mixed for my personal project, Barana, as well as for my bands, Day Clinic and Bear Attack. In my studio, equipped with a Tama Starclassic Bubinga drum kit adorned with Zildjian cymbals, I offer the option of incorporating either programmed or live-recorded drums to suit the project's needs. Additionally, I can lay down guitar tracks using a Fender Twin Reverb or a VOX AC, while basslines can be captured through a Fender Bassman. My arsenal of synthesizers includes coveted models like the Roland Juno, Korg Mologue, Siel Cruise, Moog Grandmother, and a Novation synth, complemented by a wealth of high-quality virtual instruments and mixing tools. To add depth and texture, I'm adept at incorporating various percussive elements such as shakers, tambourines, bells, and more.
