Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I like to know what DAW your song is currently in.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Give me as much info as you can, especially on the purpose of the song. Tell me if you like your rough mix, or if you want me to give you something completely new.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started out in a Hong Kong commercial studio 30 years ago on SSL 4000 G+ and a Sony Digital Tape recorder, that was where I started from trainee to mixing engineer. After 9 years I started to divert to work as producer, movie soundtrack, session musician, theatre music director, TV commercial jingle, and and I’m currently expanding my portfolio with a more international clientele
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: edgy with a human warmth
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: for vocals, remember to check if the proximity effect is making the vocal overly boomy for vocalists again, remember to drink up and hydrate well to avoid too much mouth clicks!
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: love sharing thoughts, honest and easy to work with
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop, electronic, cinematic, orchestral work
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Unique Sonic Edge: I offer a fresh, high-end international perspective that stands out in a crowded streaming market.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Before the mix I prefer to chat with the producer / artist to get a mutual consensus of the sound, the intensity, the single unique punch and the emotion they are looking for. From there my approach is to look for an emotive focus to enhance and bring forward to sophistication.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I mix ITB for both stereo and Dolby atmos. For atmos presentation, my go-to studio is Parallel Soundworks (Taipei) and Sodasound (Paris)
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Ruairi O'FLaherty for his focus on the human element of engineering, instead of focusing on gear and plug-in's
