Berklee College of Music graduate in Music Production and Engineering; focuses on electronic and pop music Hey, I'm Lera! I'm here to help you get your music sound professional and competitive! I am confident that I can give your song what it needs to make it stand strong
Hi, I'm Lera, a producer, songwriter, mixing engineer and a vocal editor based in Los Angeles, originally from Ukraine. I love electronic, alternative and pop music
Artists have come to me saying their songs just don't hit the same when played back to back with music released by big artists. If you feel that way too - don't panic, I am here to help you raise your music to its full potential! :)
I am a believer that there's no right and wrong when it comes to creative choices, "All that matters is that you are making something you love, to the best of your ability, here and now" (Rick Rubin) - and leave the rest to me, because I got you! I will get the technical aspect of music making covered for you: finding that right snare, getting your BGV's sit right in the mix or just giving the song that final push to make it feel just right! I value personal connection with the artist, and make sure that I get your vision to serve the song the way it requires.
I've produced and mixed a variety of projects with artists from Europe and US, as well getting my own album ready for a release! I chase professional sound and pro-quality production & mix bundled with awesome experience of making music together!
Hit me up and let's make records together :)

Endorse Lera ShemiI worked with Lera on 2 songs that will be coming out, and I cannot be grateful enough to have worked with her. She is extremely professional and definitely knows what she is doing. She is great at both hearing out client's creative vision and turning it into beautiful music - she really does put what you want to express in your music through her skilled production, and enhances songwriting and arranging aspect of the song. She had a lot of cool ideas, and I appreciate her dedication, the work on songs and expressing the authentic emotion were as important to her as to me!! Highly recommend!!!

Interview with Lera Shemi
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I have been working on my first album that I'm releasing soon - I am SO proud of this record. It has culminated into everything I dreamt it to be. Around the studio, I have been taking on roles mainly as a producer and mixing engineer (and of course, artist, while working on my music).
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I think both have their place in the industry! Studio space is really nice for the vibe and ability to mess with real gear - it can definitely spark creativity. But digital is very accessible; it has allowed artists to make music from all over the world, in as little of a space as your bedroom.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to be just as committed to your song as you are, and together we can nail your vision.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The creative process of making sounds and building a story from sonics. It has always drawn me toward music, and I am lucky I get to do it for my job every day :)
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Recently a Berklee College of Music graduate, I've been producing for over 6 years. I'm now living in LA and ready to produce for many up and coming artists
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Rich and gritty. The music I make jumps out of your speakers and makes you feel something raw and real.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Artemas and Aurora. I adore their music, and think their music has a perfect balance of being mainstream and having such a raw emotion to it.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I love working on electronic and pop music that has an edge to it. My bread and butter is adding that gritty, raw feel to records. I take my inspiration from the likes of Lady Gaga and Charli XCX to give songs that indescribable feeling :)
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill are my ears :) Hearing what the song needs is one of the most critical things I do for my productions. Whether it's giving the song depth, balancing frequencies, or adding polish, those all stem from my ability to hear and critically listen.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring my Berklee & industry experience as well as a great vibe to have fun while working :) Being an artist myself, I know the importance of getting your song just right; I bring the perspective of an artist but the precision of a producer.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I usually start with a check-in/conversation about goals and expectations to make sure I get the vision and we are a good fit. We will choose reference tracks (having a good reference is a key to success), plan out the workflow, agree on deadlines, etc... And then - it's where the magic starts :)
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My home studio is kitted out with Yamaha HS8 speakers, Sennheiser HD650 headphones, tons of plugins, and full acoustic treatment - so I can record, edit, mix, and master any project end‑to‑end and consistently deliver the best possible sound.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Whenever someone asks, “Can you nail the sound I’m hearing in my head?” my answer is always a confident “Yes.” I’ll dive into your vision from the very start and, through open collaboration, turn those ideas into a final track that goes beyond what you imagined.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: My mom is convinced that I just play at my computer all day haha
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I always start with a conversation to understand the creative vision: what do you want the song to be?; how does the vibe feel?; what's the story behind it?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Don't be afraid to describe your vision! The more info the better - I want to understand YOU. Bring a couple of good reference tracks (vibe, sound, vocal processing) and let's work!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am mixing a project for Joshua Pearlstein and a couple more singles for other artists; Producing an EP for an fusion pop artist; finishing up my own album;
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I’m brand new to SoundBetter but incredibly excited to engage with the community and collaborate with fellow artists and professionals. I’m also sure that there are some Berklee colleagues on this platform that I’ve yet to encounter!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: hmmmmm... honestly you really don't need much :) - my computer, - a pair of headphones AKG K371, - mic Beta 58 A (the isolation is so good), - audio interface Komplete Audio 6 - my hard drive with all the fun plugins & libraries
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Think of tools as your spices for food! Then go experiment and see which combinations you like the most!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am a big fan of producers like Finneas, Benny Blanco, Artemas, Skrillex, Avicii, Pharrell Williams, The Chainsmokers. And artists like Charli XCX, Halsey, Radiohead, Lana Del Rey, Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, and Bjork.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Lots of the times artists come to me with song ideas for me to complete/fully build the production. It doesn't matter if the demo you bring is just a piano + vocal voice memo, a somewhat produced track or fully produced song that is just lacking that extra bit - I can help you bring your vision into life. Others come with songs to mix - I love hearing the "rough mix" made by the artist so that I can get the vibe they're going for and enhance it. And sometimes there's just vocal work that musicians want to outsource (tuning, aligning, editing, cleaning).
