Specalizing in Indie Guitars and Production, I strive to bring to life each song I put my fingerprint on.
Starting my career with assisting producers and engineers Charles Yingling, Warren David, and Jonny Black, and going on the road with Owl City, I saw firsthand how being creative comes from serving the song first.
My experience comes from working with bands and solo artists. I have self-produced my own music, some of which has aired on the show Superman and Lois (Too Soon by Jacob Pregont). My band Start Ahead showcases the rock side of what I can offer, while artists like Mady Nuekam showcase my love for indie singer-songwriters.
I love recording guitars through tube amps and mics. I primarily work in Pro Tools it allows me to deliver quality editing and a streamlined workflow.
Deliverables:
- I will deliver edited guitars with dry and wet versions in .Wav format.
- For production clients, I will deliver the fully produced song
- I can additionally provide stems
I can't wait to help bring your vision to life, however that may be!

Endorse Jacob Pregont1 Reviews

I'll always recommend Jacob for amazing guitar playing, engineering, editor, and mix engineer! He's a great option for bands and solo artists alike who need an affordable musician who's been involved in major album releases! I've worked with Jacob for years--there's nobody I'd rather have by my side making records.

Interview with Jacob Pregont
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Charles Yingling
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love working with people, as an extrovert, it gives me a lot of energy being in a room full of creatives and working on music together.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: - What makes you excited to record or add guitars to this song? - What do you want this song to feel like? - Where do you feel like the strengths and weaknesses of this song are?
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: - Apollo quad - SM7B - my Martin CM18 - laptop - my telecaster
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started making bands in high school and went to Lipscomb University to learn under Brown Banister and Brent Milligan. From there, I started working under Charles Yingling and Warren David as a recording and mix assistant. I went on the road with Owl City as a tech/stage manager in 2023 and 2024. I've been independently producing artists in Nashville as well as my band Start Ahead. I've been working in music for 8 years.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I have a polished raw sound that allows me to fit into most genres. I like hearing the room that the guitar or vocal was recorded in, I don't want something so perfect sounding it loses the charm that made the artist write the song from the beginning.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Ruston Kelly. His songwriting and the sounds his producer finds are a perfect match. It keeps me engaged the whole listen through an album.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Find a workflow that allows you to focus more on the music. A template for me allows me to have all my tools easily accessible while not wasting time setting up everything. I keep mics and preamps set to a general sound so that it is easier to shape the tones I need for the song I'm working on.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work on mostly singer-songwriter and indie rock. I really enjoy the indie country sound that's been surfacing and want to work on that more.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a lot of texture and tones to each song I work on. I seek to build a landscape that keeps the listener engaged and parts that enhance the feeling the song is conveying.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I typically import the song into my template and try my best to keep the client's starting mix or production intact, and I build off of that. I find that templates for various things help me stay on track when I'm in the creative flow. Instead of stopping to build an aux send for a 1/4 delay every time, I've got several different delay settings on disabled auxs that I can pull up when I need. After recording my guitar parts I edit and comp then export a dry and wet version of the guitar stems.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I've got a small single room studio with sound treatment. I can record just about everything but drums in my space. If the project needs drums, I typically rent from a couple of trusted studios and record a drummer there. I've got a UAD Apollo interface and plenty of microphones. I use Pro Tools. For electric guitars, I've got a Fender Telecaster, Stratocaster, Mustang, and Gretsch Streamline JR. I've got a Martin CM18 acoustic guitar. I've got a pedal board that I use for guitar FX. I've got a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and an Orange solid state for amplifiers. I can also use my HX Stomp for amp modeling.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I've been really inspired by musicians like Julian Lage, Justin Vernon, and Ruston Kelly. I love more traditional producers like Ethan Johns and Micha Tawks, who lean more towards audio recording.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I do a lot of assisting for producers or mix engineers. I frequently play guitar for clients in the studio and for live performances.
