Jack of all trades - can produce, mix, master, track drums, guitar, bass, or even piano for you. I have worked both in my home studio for years as well as in professional recording enviornments as both a musician and producer.

Kia Ora and Hello,

My name is Alex Beattie, I'm a young producer and songwriter with well over a decade playing guitar, drums, and piano.

I've played as a stand-in drummer with local Auckland bands such as Where's Jai, Back to the Hillside, as well as worked on a track with Candian electronic artist, Tennyson.

I offer a wide range of skills as both a musician and audio engineer/producer.

Send me an email through 'Contact' button above and I'll get back to you asap.

Excellent musician, easy to talk and explaining my ideas to him. Patient and creative in his approach. Communication was also effective remotely. A valuable professional with a great passion for music. I highly recommend him for giving a high-quality hi-fi definition to your songs.

Interview with Alex Beattie

  1. Q: How would you describe your style?

  2. A: I often utilize contrast anywhere I can, use a lot of delay and reverb throws, love warbly tremolo'd sounds and I often will create implications of jazziness without being in your face (doesn't always apply however).

  3. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  4. A: I'd love to work with Mk.gee as his approach to sound design is so unique and I'm often left wondering "how was this sound made?" Also, producer Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, Beck), has created some of my favourite recordings that feel timeless, would love to see his approach in person.

  5. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  6. A: You can really add depth to a song and make it flow and breathe with automation - automate delays, reverbs, volume, FX. Make no 10 seconds sound the exact same.

  7. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  8. A: Anything alternative or indie - rock, pop, electronic, pretty open to many things!

  9. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  10. A: Getting along with people I'm working with has always been a massive help - knowing how to contribute and give opinions in a constructive way has been highly beneficial to projects I've worked on.

  11. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  12. A: Professional musicianship with the ability to serve the song, creative production ideas, and a variety of instrumental options

  13. Q: What's your typical work process?

  14. A: When starting a song from scratch, I'll often record a quick scratch track either on guitar or piano then focus on getting the drum takes, with all primary elements often getting finished in a day (then the rest of the time will be on vocals and polishing production). With production jobs, it's all about finding what sound your client already can achieve, knowing what the want, and breaking the song into small chunks to work it towards their sonic goal (no real one size fits approach!)

  15. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  16. A: I have a nice gretsch drum kit, a good collection of mics ideal for drums and vocals, more guitars than I need, and a Yamaha U3 Upright Piano

  17. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  18. A: Mk.gee, Tennyson, Radiohead, D'Angelo (And their respective production professionals)

  19. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  20. A: Modern alternative production, drum tracking, mixing
