Mixing & Mastering Engineer

Ash Smith on SoundBetter

I'm a top rated mixing & mastering engineer helping artists gain over 8M streams, playlist placements and regular radio play - and I'd like to help you do the same! Listed in the top 5% of mastering engineers. (Muso.ai)

I specialise in helping artists bring their music to life with expert mixing and mastering - enhancing their vision and helping them compete with confidence at the highest level.

As your engineer, I'll be both a creative collaborator and trusted companion to help you finish your release and get it sounding exactly how you envisioned.

I'm most familiar with pop, hip-hop and electronica/EDM, but I'm happy working in any style. Good music is good music! Personally, I have an eclectic taste in music and am also a huge fan of reggae, afrobeat and 'world' styles, as well as heavier, rockier styles, and all kinds of electronica, ambient and experimental.

All my projects are all in - that means any revisions needed, all formats and versions are included in the price. My mixes are all delivered as a final master, with an unmastered version if needed. The idea is to make working together simple and give you good value for your money.

Send me an email through 'Contact' button above and I'll get back to you asap.

Interview with Ash Smith

  1. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  2. A: To always deliver. I'm not going to tell you I want more money if we need a revision. To me, it's paramount that you are fully satisfied, not only with the final mix or master, but also the process. That's why everything is all-in, to keep it simple.

  3. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  4. A: What they want their mix or master to sound like. It's really important to never assume what the artist wants - unless of course they give you that direction. Because we are making art, we need to have a conversation and get on the same creative page, for me to best serve the client and their music.

  5. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  6. A: It's streamlined. Completely ITB. I use a whole host of professional plug-ins, some hardware emulations etc. Monitoring is Neumann KH80s and KH750 sub, tuned to the room with the MA1 software. I also use RME interfaces and GIK acoustics. For headphones, I use my trusty Slate VSX which I've been using since they first came out. I also use a cheap pair of earbuds for mix checks.

  7. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  8. A: Loads. I'm inspired by individuals who think differently and produce music and sounds that stand on their own. I'm inspired by music culture and its relationship with sound. Think of King Tubby for example - a creative production pioneer.

  9. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  10. A: I mostly work as a mix engineer, mastering engineer and occasional music producer. Essentially, a creative collaborator.
