Interview with Lauren Blackford

  1. Q: How would you describe your style?

  2. A: I've grown quite fond of the word "eclectic". Refusing to stick to the boundaries of a genre, allowing for constant play and surprise within a song... having fun breaking the rules. Love it.

  3. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  4. A: Imogen Heap. No explanation necessary.

  5. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  6. A: All the musical information needed for an entire production exists within the song as it's written. Don't produce *around* a song, produce it from the inside out. Also, repetition in unlikely places can be a production + arrangement lifesaver.

  7. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  8. A: I frequent Indie Pop, Alternative Rock, and Acoustic / Singer-Songwriter the most in my solo project. Still, I've written everything from Electronic Pop to Choral Arrangements, and am always happy to push myself creatively!

  9. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  10. A: Songwriting. It's what I've been doing the longest, and what allows everything else (vocals, production, arrangements) to shine. Every great song has a solid foundation in the writing -- this is what I strive for.

  11. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  12. A: At-home studio: Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, AT-2035, Pop Filter + Isolation Shield, Various Guitars and MIDI Controllers. Access to a full-service studio is available at an increased rate.

  13. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  14. A: FINNEAS, Deza, Amy Allen -- to name a few. Artists who work with other artists through various avenues as well aw their own solo projects.
