Interview with Rasheed Ferrache "RUSH"

  1. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  2. A: Never use too much software. Keep the authenticity of the first draft and your demo. Come back on your first ideas sometime. Your emotion is often here, on the demo. Studio is only to answer to the demand of the music industry, not to completely change your song. I can do vocal very close to your demo, but with a professional interpretation and sound.

  3. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  4. A: Perfect ear. Huge control of harmonie. Large experience of recording studio session with more than 1500 since 25 years. I control perfectly the rythme, but also the Groove.. 2 very different things. I can hear very fine details. I was a vocal arranger and director for an a cappella bands. I was sometime the bass, and sometime the tenor. I have a very large range. From bass high head voice.

  5. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  6. A: Something really professional, with my experience as a singer I am too. I bring a meticulous work to make the song almost perfect. Even if perfect doesn't exist.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: Listening and understand the details of the demand to better create, arrange or sing vocals.

  9. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  10. A: Quincy Jones, Maurice White, John Williams, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Prince, Mark Ronson, Teddy Riley, Rahsaan Patterson, Brian McKnight, Bobby McFerrin, Take 6. Soul, Pop, Gospel, Jazz, Rock.

  11. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  12. A: Professional Singer - Backup Vocalist for 30 years. Backing Vocal arranger - Choirs Directing. Professional Vocal Editor for several artists and Major compagnies.

  13. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  14. A: Piano - Microphone - Recorder - Speakers - French cheese.

  15. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  16. A: I have composed and sing for several artists. But I remember that when I directed a Brazilian band. It was my first time and all my previous habits to harmonise were changed. I had to listen a lot of Bossa Nova style and Brazilian Jazz to better understand how it works.

  17. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  18. A: There are many talented people on Soundbetter. I seen many great mixing engineers I'd love to work with, and really great singers too.

  19. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  20. A: You will love my work.

  21. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  22. A: The difference between before and after. The smile on the face of the artists. To see them impressed by the results. And meet new people. That's the first job of music.. meet people and discover different univers.

  23. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  24. A: If they're ready for a real good collaboration. I'm a passionated singer and need to feel this same sensation with others.

  25. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  26. A: I'm producing many songs, in different styles for different artists. And I am doing something never done before. I am composing songs for an Opera, with additional Beat Box and jazz Vocal Harmonies. Very interesting.

  27. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  28. A: Listen many things about me.. Google me... See all my videos on youtube. Try to feel my music sensibility before to give me yours. If you are an artist, you will understand that I am the music partner you were looking for.

  29. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  30. A: Totally different. I prefer definitively analog for the quality of sound... No numeric numbers.. Only the source. I have recorder artists on 24 tracks Sony analog, with monster Cables, great microphones and pre amp... This is "really" different. But edit on analog... hum... You have an idea?

  31. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  32. A: To not abandon them..

  33. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  34. A: Maybe I want to do much more than the demand of the client. I want to make him or her happy and deeply satisfied. So if I have to take more time than expected, don't stress. It is for you.

  35. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  36. A: I start in the music industry as a singer in 1986. After many years and success in France, I started to study music, piano and drum. As a child, I was really curious. I was listening the backing vocal, and I was redoing its on my first 4 tracks tape recorder. I wanted to do it perfectly. I became a back vocalist for many singers, in studio and on live shows during long tours. I owned 4 recording studios in France. I've learn how to record voices, drums, piano, strings, but I was really focused on voices. It was in the 90's, with the arrival of Boys II Mens and all these vocal harmonies. I became a reference at the end of 90'.

  37. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  38. A: Quincy Jones. Because everything is logic when you listen his productions. Everything combines perfectly. His music is how life should be : LISTEN, BREATH, ENJOY, SHARE.

  39. Q: How would you describe your style?

  40. A: Meticulous, Meticulous, Meticulous, Meticulous... But really cool.

  41. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  42. A: I'm working on ProTool for Audio Engine in duet with Logic Pro for the Timeline.

  43. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  44. A: All music. I grow up with 80's music, Toto, Earth Wind and Fire, Phil Collins, Michael Jackson, Supertramp, Prince... but music is always the same.. The magic is there when everything combines perfectly
