Dr. Gretz on SoundBetter

Mastering engineer with synesthesia and a professional studio with excellent acoustics. I deliver perfectly to the song and genre-tailored masters. Owner of Dr. Gretz Studios.

I don’t have a typical mastering procedure. Each mastering is tailored to each track and corrects/improves what the track needs. This can involve cleaning up the frequency spectrum for resonances that are not critical for the intention and the groove of the track. Furthermore, I increase the loudness by a series of various saturation, compression, and limiting effects (analog/digital) while always keeping the intention and groove of the track in mind. Due to my synesthesia, I already ‘feel’ wrong settings of around 0.2 dB. I have been a student in the masterclass of Robert Babicz who taught me his mastering and mixing techniques. I’m also a certified trainer for Bitwig Studio and have produced, mixed, and mastered my own releases under the names ‘Oliver Gretz’ and ‘Okmog’.

You will typically get the master within 3-5 days, including the mastering details. Delivered formats are WAV, FLAC, MP3. You will get a discount for more than one track. Contact me! :)

I had the pleasure of working with Oliver Gretz for the mastering of my latest album. He was very professional and friendly throughout the whole process, and he delivered a superb mastering that exceeded my expectations. The mastering enhanced the clarity, depth and punch of my mixes, and made them sound great on any devices. The mastering was definitely worth the money, and I can highly recommend Oliver Gretz as a mastering engineer. I will come back for sure!

Interview with Dr. Gretz

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: The question of whether to use analog or digital always depends on the track and what should be achieved. Analog has its strengths but also its weaknesses, as well as digital has its strengths and weaknesses. Which tools I use always depends on the specific track and what should be achieved.

  3. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  4. A: Techno, Psytrance, House, EDM, Synthpop, Deep-House, Ambient/Chillout.

  5. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  6. A: A perfectly to the song and genre tailored master.

  7. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  8. A: As a kid, I learned to play the accordion and piano, and as a teenager, I started to get involved with electronic music. I first studied physics and earned a doctorate in physics. During this time, I always dealt with electronic music and have been doing it professionally for a year now.

  9. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  10. A: My strongest skill is to feel/hear incorrect settings in the millidecibel range, which helps me to work very precisely and to immediately know which settings fit the track and which do not.

  11. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  12. A: The most important components in my studio are the extremely transparent AD/DA converter Lynx Hilo, my phase linearized studio monitors HEDD Type 20, and my very well acoustically treated room.
