Steven has been awesome to work with. His producing and arranging skills are second to none and he is an incredible musician. It's been such a privilege to work with him. Our project is turning out even better than we could have imagined. He has brought brand new music to life and made older tunes sound fresh and new. He is amazing!!!!
Interview with HEREAFTER
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Get the songs right. Unfortunately, no amount of production slickness can polish up a bad song. Spend the time and resources getting a great song, and the rest will always fall right into place.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Well, I've been a songwriter my entire life. That said, my perspective on crafting music is at a foundational level: is it a great song? If not, what can we do to get it there? Does it needs a better hook? Is the song taking advantage of "power positions" lyrically? Stuff like that. From there, anything is possible: a strong foundation makes creating a beautiful song incredibly easy! At the end of the day, you can have the best gear, the best musicians, and the best people working on your music. But if the song is a dud, it's still gonna just be a dud. You gotta have a strong foundation.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Fast turnarounds, great communication, and a wide smile when you hear what we've created together!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Typically, I like to meet with the artists in person or over the phone first, hear about their dreams and goals, and chart a plan of action to make that happen. Then, I like to hear the music. From there, we'll decide what makes the most sense for that particular artist, whether that means hiring the best musicians in the industry, or simply putting together loops in Ableton or Pro Tools. Every project is different; every artist is a blank page!
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: At my heart, I'm a producer. I love taking an artist's musical vision, and bringing it to LIFE. That said, I've spent the past 2 decades as a session musician and mix engineer. Doing that, I've cultivated the relationships it takes to help my artists achieve the goals they've set for themselves.
