I have worked with Tom for many years at Weston Playhouse in Vermont. He is that most special combination - very talented and a complete delight to work with. I often create reductions of full orchestrations, and it requires the Reed player to basically sound like many musicians at the same time. Tom pulls this off better than anyone I know and always has interesting solutions to contribute to the project. Anyone would be lucky to work with him!

Tom is an exceptional player! I was the orchestrator for a new show called The Astonishing Time of Timothy Cratchit. We needed to make a cast recording and Tom came highly recommended. He was absolutely magnificent! He played on all reeds for us including oboe which is very rare to find someone who can do that these days, and he did so masterfully.

It was also such a delight working with him as he was respectful, attentive, and made every line sing!

Tom is my go to person to recommend to everyone who needs a reed player!

Tom is an outstanding player and a wonderful collaborator. As an orchestrator of new works, it is always a thrill to know Tom will be in the ensemble. His input into what a multi-instrumentalist can do and his ideas for how to approach various passages have been invaluable to every project we've worked on together. What's more, he's a joy to be around and can play anything you put in front of him!

I had a fantastic experience working with Tom on a project at Carnegie Hall in which he performed. His expert musicianship, joyful demeanor and great collaborative spirit made it a wonderful time for our team and the audience. I can't wait to work with him again!

I have hired Tom as a multi-reeds expert for multiple shows. He is an EXCELLENT player of any woodwind you need; a crackerjack signtreader; and most importantly, a joyful, compassionate, respectful, and generous contributor to the vibe of a good pit. He is a marvel: creative, skilled, and a genuinely warm person. Best of the best.

Long-time Broadway/Regional conductor here. Tom is the BEST. His klezmer clarinet solo in our FIDDLER production was transcendent. You’ll never work with someone who knows as much about every different sound he can make with every single instrument. Plus, a top-notch fellow!

As a musical director it was always my great pleasure to have Tom in the pit. His musician ship, attitude and work ethic are superior. If he lived in my area he would be my first call!!!

I have worked with Tom on several projects and he is the epitome of professional and artistic. From filming RuPaul’s Dragrace star Nina West in a fully virtual big band show “Heels of Horror” to covering wind parts in Sister Act the musical, Tom is adaptive and reflexive. Musical books aren’t known for their accuracy, and Tom takes the initiative to be fully prepared and accurate coming into rehearsals.

Thomas one of the most remarkable multi instrumentalist‘s I’ve had the pleasure of working with during my many years as a music director in New York. His abilities are beyond reproach, but Tom is also an absolute joy to work with. I can’t wait to work with him again!

Interview with Tom Regouski

  1. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  2. A: As a session musician, I am an interpretive artist. I read what's on the page, and I interpret it. My strongest skill is understanding the mind of a creative artist. I live with the protectiveness and nurturing that surrounds a new project on a daily basis. I know how to navigate the process of bringing something new into the world of music.

  3. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  4. A: I bring years of study and a collaborative spirit. I know my abilities and my limitations, and I want to work with great artists who need the skills I can offer. I'm happy to provide creative input if that bolsters the project, and I am equally happy to play the notes on the page.

  5. Q: What's your typical work process?

  6. A: I like to start by understanding what purpose the music serves. Is it music for a movie? A video game? A demo recording? That helps me get in the mind of the writer. Ultimately, I want my playing to make your project a success in any arena.

  7. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  8. A: Our house is a recording studio. My husband is a composer and lyricist, and I am a session musician. We live and breath music. I have carefully crafted a home recording studio that aims to meet the standards of the wonderful collaborators I have worked with in the past.

  9. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  10. A: I have a deep love of house music. It has nothing to do with the music I make which might be why I enjoy listening to it. It also may have something to do with the fact that there is rarely lyrics. I love lyrics. I analyze lyrics. So when I truly want to unplug and relax, it's house music.

  11. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  12. A: Most of my studio work so far has been connected to musical theater. Sometimes that is a cast recording of a new show and sometimes that is orchestral work relating to musical theater. While I also love pop and soundtrack work, telling a story through music is really where my heart lies.
