Interview with DW5

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Last year a good friend of mine and I started a project called 5XS (5 taken from my name DW5 and S for Sanem, my friend). We make dubstep, hard techno, UK Garage and we tend to try new stuff with the nostalgia of the music we grew up with. It's starting to make some noise on the culture and we are bringing attention to our project. We know that we are going to be the gratest on this country and region

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: As an agent on a call center

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Really not, i just discovered this page on my last semesters of University

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: It doesn't matter to me. I use mostly digital because analog gear is too expensive on my country, but i love the warmth and color that analog gear brings to a sound. Emulations are not as good, but it does the work

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: You'll get a sound like no other and a lot of ear candy for the great listeners. I know i can make something great with you all

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Everything. It brings me joy and keeps my mind healthy and my heart at peace

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: How's my workflow and how do i make it so fast. My answer is that i don't know, i have a lot of practice and everytime gets easier and quicker

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That we just push buttons and everything just pops out on the speakers

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Do you see yourself on big stages, living of music and making yourself and other people happy? me too, that's enough to start the magic

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Once you hear my sound, you will be amazed by the uniqueness of it. I would love to innovate and try crazy stuff for our productions. It makes me happy to make stuff that stands out.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: PC, headphones, Hard Drive, USB and a small midi keayboard

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I've been making music since 2012, that year i started learning how to use FL, how to make my own sounds and be creative. As a professional i've been working for five years on a couple studios on my city where i leveled up my skills and craft

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Raw, agressive, emotional, psychedelic, magical, dreamy, spacey...

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Skrillex, as i said before he is my biggest inspiration and i look up to him a lot

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Let your mind flow and give you quick ideas, you can edit them later with more detail

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: EDM (House styles, UKG, Bass Music), Reggaetón, Afrobeats, R&B and many more genres

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: I'm the best on drums. I like to select sounds that work toghether pretty well and make them stand out

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Creativity, textures, dramatic silences, big spaces and hypnotic vibes

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I just flow. I like to sit and try ideas until one of them gets me motivated to finish it. I make quick ideas just to have a structure and a general sound for the track, and then i go into scientist mode to give detail and quality.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I work with my laptop, i work on a studio in the house i live in and the equipment is pretty solid. KRK 7 studio monitors, Scarlett 2I2 audio interface, AKG Mic and acoustic treatment.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: My biggest inspiration and role model on music production is Skrillex. I love his music, his sounds, his approach and the energy he brings onto his music.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Mostly i do beats, i also mix them and sometimes i work on the master of it. I make quick great ideas that eventually turn into a solid and competitive song for the industry.
