Interview with Joey Parki

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I'm currently working on a cool song for a big movie in India. It's an exciting project that involves blending various musical elements to create a memorable soundtrack. I'm looking forward to seeing how it all comes together and contributes to the film's overall impact.

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: Not yet! I'm relatively new to the platform, so I haven't had the chance to connect with other professionals on SoundBetter. However, I'm always open to exploring collaborations and building a network to offer even more value to my clients in the future.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: My promise to my clients is simple: I strive for complete satisfaction. My ultimate goal is to ensure that every client leaves with a great song and a smile on their (virtual) face. I'm dedicated to bringing their musical vision to life and delivering a product that exceeds their expectations.

  7. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  8. A: Customers commonly ask me questions like: Can you create a song in a specific style or genre? And my answer is usually yes, as I'm a diverse producer and have always focussed on multiple genres.

  9. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  10. A: One common misconception is that I'm a DJ, but I'm actually a music producer. I'm all about crafting the tunes, not spinning them.

  11. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  12. A: When working with potential clients, I typically ask them several questions: 1. What are your goals for this project? 2. What direction or style are you envisioning for the song? 3. Are there any specific sounds, instruments, or elements you'd like to incorporate into the music? 4. Do you want to give me complete creative freedom, or are there certain parameters or guidelines you'd like me to follow? 5. And can you provide me with a reference if you have any in mind

  13. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  14. A: When looking to hire a producer like me, I'd advice to trust my vision. Though always do your research, and ultimately, choose the one that feels like the best fit for you.

  15. Q: How would you describe your style?

  16. A: My style is a mix of EDM, pop, and hip-hop. I combine catchy pop melodies, energetic EDM beats, and elements of hip-hop to create a versatile and engaging sound that appeals to a diverse audience.

  17. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  18. A: I would have chosen to work with Avicii. His groundbreaking contributions to electronic music and ability to connect with audiences worldwide were truly inspiring. Collaborating with him would have been a dream opportunity to learn from a visionary artist.

  19. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  20. A: A mix of both! Analog because of its warm, tangible, vintage sound (but being less convenient) and digital due to convenient, durable and versatile (but sound quality debates and DRM concerns).

  21. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  22. A: My creative freedom allows me to work seamlessly, regardless of time and location. I have honed my skills to produce and achieve high-quality music, including mixes, primarily using headphones. This proficiency enables me to work efficiently with just a laptop, as I can handle most aspects of production 'in the box.' As a result, I am capable of producing music from virtually anywhere.

  23. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  24. A: Haha, good one! If I were stranded, id take these items with me: Laptop, MIDI Controller, Studio Headphones, Solar powered power-bank and a condenser Microphone. With these five gears, I'll be the island's one-man band, making music, having a blast, and maybe even turning some coconuts into bongos for those jungle rhythms. Who said being stranded can't be a party?

  25. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  26. A: I am a self-taught music and ghost producer boasting more than nine years of extensive experience both in the industry and behind the board. My passion for diverse music genres from an early age honed my exceptional ear and cultivated my ability to comfortably produce across any musical style.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: My music production tip would be to try and maintain a balanced mix - each element should find its place in the frequency spectrum. EQ, panning, and volume are key.

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: I work with a wide variety of music genres, and to be honest, my most recognized efforts have been within the EDM scene. However, I'm quite versatile and can seamlessly transition from producing hip-hop to pop and even dancehall - anything, really. My adaptability allows me to explore diverse musical styles and deliver great results across the board.

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: I'm really good at finishing up song ideas and demos. Turning them into fully finished, polished songs ready for release. I've had a lot of success with this, and people know me for being reliable and getting the job done when it comes to finishing musical projects.

  33. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  34. A: I have had the privilege of producing multiple records for Alan Walker, which have collectively garnered over 50 million streams on Spotify alone.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Honesty is key for me when working on songs, as each one demands a different treatment. Sometimes it requires more energy, other times a refined mix, and occasionally just a gentle touch-up. It's always a unique experience, and the needs of each song vary every time.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I believe in adapting my approach to each song, as each one has its own unique requirements. There isn't a typical work process for me—I prefer to go with the flow and let the creative process guide me.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: Over the years, I have honed my skills to produce high quality, professional music entirely in the box, utilizing headphones as my primary monitoring tool. Currently, my setup includes a Macbook Pro, a MIDI keyboard, an Apollo audio interface, and Beyerdynamic headphones.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I find inspiration in a diverse range of artists, spanning from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Harry Styles to EDM icons like Avicii.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: My expertise lies in the ability to enhance and optimize songs, bringing them to life and preparing them for release. By leveraging my skills, I am able to provide a polished and professional sound that instills confidence in decision makers involved in the music production process.
