CLAIRE @ WILD HORIZON SOUND on SoundBetter

I've worked as a recording and mixing engineer for independent studios and bands in LA for the last 10 years and now run my own recording studio in West Hollywood with full-band tracking capabilities. I love combining the use of cool analog gear with the fidelity and efficiency of digital technology to craft the perfect sound.

WILD HORIZON SOUND is a recording studio in West Hollywood owned and operated by producer and recording/mixing engineer Claire Morison. Wild Horizon Sound is available for booking for a multitude of services, including: recording, mixing, production/writing sessions, editing, data transfer, voice-overs, podcasts, and photoshoots. Wild Horizon Sound is passionate about investing into classic and state of the art instruments, amps and recording gear in order to make records that both sound great and are fun to make.
Originally from Northwest Montana, Claire Morison has worked as a recording and mixing engineer in Los Angeles, CA for over a decade. In 2020, she had the opportunity to open her own studio amidst the pandemic, and renovated a space in order to fit her creative vision and honor what she had come to learn about feeding inspiration and how to curate an environment for artists. Claire is inspired to make records that are true to the artist’s intentions but are elevated both sonically and creatively. It is her goal to make sure the artist is as comfortable as possible while creating and that all the hard work that goes into making a record is done as effortlessly and efficiently as possible, all while sounding amazing. Claire specializes in recording and mixing live instrumentation and loves to experiment with different tones and techniques.

I've worked alongside Claire as a producer/client for the last two years since my move from Texas to Los Angeles and I am so grateful we connected. She is one of the most efficient and intentional engineers I have come across in my 15+ years of recording in studios across the U.S. Most recently, I paired up with Claire to co-produce and engineer my next solo record at Wild Horizon Sound and the creativity and spontaneity from start to finish has been one of the best experiences I've ever had. Claire knows how to gently guide an artist into their own authentic lane of expression and make magic

Claire is hands down the BEST producer and sound engineer I have ever worked with. She also excels at mixing-feels like she can do anything. The studio is such a wonderful environment to record in, I not only had fun but I felt comfortable and safe to create my work. I would recommend Claire & her studio to any musician, she truly has been the most amazing discovery.

Me and Claire worked together since 2019 and she is the most supportive engineer i’ve met. She encouraged me when I was just getting started and has pushed me up until now. Not only does she create that open welcoming environment you need as an artist, but she also is super creative when it comes to the mix. She can make any best come to life - both in terms of sound design and beat arrangement. She also adds an invaluable creativity to a song that I can’t get enough of with the vocals! Great engineer and an amazing person. Definitely would recommend :)

I have worked with Claire on my first single, Dumpster Diver, and again on my first EP, Winter Blonde. She is incredibly patient and made my dream sound come to life and even sound even better than I imagined. 10/10 will make my next record with her.

Interview with CLAIRE @ WILD HORIZON SOUND

  1. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  2. A: My Nash tele, Fender Twin Reverb, vintage U87, LA2A, and some kind of Neve pre-amp.

  3. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  4. A: One of my strongest skills is my ability and desire to listen to not just the song, but the artist. How someone creates, what they are influenced by, what they felt when they wrote the track or how they feel in the studio, what kind of production moves them - this is all influential towards the work that we will do together. I always want to move in sync with the artist, and if there are moments of creative discordance I want to work through those moments with open communication and in a way that feels good and will ultimately make the song better. It is my goal to help elevate and deliver art that is true to the artist's vision.

  5. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  6. A: My main influences include artists such as Radiohead, Modest Mouse, Frank Ocean, Elliott Smith, the Pixies, Kendrick Lamar, and Sonic Youth - all musicians that aren’t afraid to push the envelope creatively. I hugely look up to producers like Nigel Godrich, Mark Ronson, Pharrell, and Steve Albini who also embody that quality and craft those sounds.
