"Immediately engaging" Acoustic Magazine
Hello, I'm Holly Taymar. I'm an experienced songwriter, vocalist and session musician from York, England.
With almost two decades working in the music industry, I'm happy to be the chosen collaborator for a range of artists and producers in the UK, USA and across the world.
Please take a listen to my work. I can help you with:
- Songwriting: Create memorable melodies and lyrics for your songs. Whether you need help with a full song or just a catchy chorus, I can provide as much creative input as you need.
- Vocals: Provide soulful and engaging lead and backing vocals for your recordings. I have experience singing in a range of styles, including folk, pop, soul, and jazz. Mixed or raw stems provided.
- Guitar: Create tasteful, well-balanced guitar accompaniments.
I have worked on a wide variety of projects, including bespoke music for films, video games, advertising campaigns, and album recordings for myself and others.
My original music has been featured on BBC Radio 2, BBC 6Music and BBC Introducing shows.
I love working with artists and producers to understand their vision for a project, and I always strive to deliver performances that exceed expectations.
I'll communicate with you at every stage of writing and recording to make sure you're getting exactly what you need.

Interview with Holly Taymar
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love the creative opportunities that the studio offers. Earlier in my career I mostly played live solo and duo shows, which was great, but nowadays I'm more into building a track from scratch and making something really memorable that people want to listen to again and again. Since having my daughter Ripley in 2021, live gigs and tours are on the backburner. But I find writing and recording more creatively fulfilling these days (and it's much easier to fit around being a Mama!).
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I'm open to working across genres, but I mostly work on: Pop, Folk, Soft rock, Jazz, Soul, Blues. I have also recently written and recorded a worship song for a client, plus a number of original songs for children's playgroups. So - anything goes.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That you have to be a 'tortured artist' to write songs! I find writing and co-writing such a positive experience. I love sitting down with my guitar and just doing the work and seeing what comes out that day. You'll never write the same song on two different days, so it's always worth making that time to just get something down. Start with a verse and a chorus, and go from there.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Original, multi-layered songwriting, often utilising lyrical imagery and unexpected chord progressions. Clean, emotive and on-the-note vocals. Smooth, perfectly blended harmonies and bv's. Gorgeous picked/strummed acoustic or electric guitar parts.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I learn something new from almost everything I listen to, but if i had to choose a favourite inspiring musician and writer it would have to be Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys. I've always been drawn to his complete creative freedom, and who can resist those harmonies?
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Most recently I've been writing and recording custom songs based on any information I'm given, for customers to use as gifts for anniversaries and birthdays etc. It's a lot of fun, and such a good challenge to make sure that the song sounds awesome as well as capturing all the details they need. Never a dull day!
