Josh Berry on SoundBetter

Mixed from the band's perspective - touring musician/mix engineer with projects amassing 15M+ streams. Let me capture your unique sound and make it shine. Indie, rock, or pop, I prioritize your music, with years of experience and a passion for the art. Let's work together to create something special that reflects your artistic vision.

As a musician, producer, and mixing engineer based in the UK, I have built a successful career in the music industry. I first gained recognition with my band HONEYMOAN, where I was responsible for mixing and producing all of our released music. Our music has since garnered over 15 million streams and we have toured extensively throughout the EU/UK.

With my experience and skills, I have gone on to produce and mix for numerous artists in South Africa. My approach centers on bringing the artist's vision to life, creating a sound that is unique and authentic to them. By working closely with each artist, I am able to understand their style and craft a production that captures the essence of their artistry.

I would love to hear some of your music. Feel free to send me an mp3 of something you’d like mixed for review. I look forward to hearing from you.

Josh is stellar when it comes to anything pop/indie/rock. He effortlessly carries over his in depth knowledge of sound engineering into his production sessions, which results in sounds and stylistic choices that deeply resonate with intended brief and feel of the track. I initially approached Josh to collaborate on production for a personal project and after working together over the past year he is now my go to collaborator for all personal projects as well as my go for mixing engineer for any outside clients in need of high quality and fast turn arounds. His work ethic and ear is unmatched.

Josh and I have worked together for the past year. He has assisted with mixing and production on numerous tracks I’ve produced or written.

When working with Josh I feel like he really makes the effort and takes the time to understand my creative ideas and helps me express them with clarity and character.

His mixes and productions provoke excitement and are clear, tight and punchy.

Josh is punctual, efficient and an excellent communicator and very hard working.

We first approached Josh as we were launching a new project. We had demos and ideas, but Josh played a crucial role as our '5th member'. He helped us sort through the mess and refine our tracks into a body of coherent sound. What I really enjoyed was Josh's decisiveness - he knows what he likes and how to get there! - but I also found him very open to conversation and compromise when band politics boiled over.

Interview with Josh Berry

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: The Body EP by my band HONEYMOAN was the first time I gained confidence in my abilities, and the outcomes reflect that.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: The HONEYMOAN debut album.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Digital! Flexibility and speed are a priority for me.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: To get the song across the line, no matter what it takes.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: The revision process is surprisingly essential in music production. Feedback helps me refine and elevate the mix to its full potential. Collaborating with artists to create the best possible mix not only results in a better end product but also builds trust and rapport. Through this process, my perspective shifts, leading to a more dynamic and polished mix.

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: How long will a first pass take? If the stems are in order, a first pass can take up to 3 days.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: I'm not here to just get the levels right. I'm here to get that sound out of your head into the song. To make it feel "complete"

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: Where are you with the song. Are you looking for me to breathe new life into it? Or would you like the same but "more". What inspires you about the song and what parts do you keep finding yourself listening to again and again?

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: I started out playing in bands and found myself drawn to the sonics as much, if not more, than the song. One thing lead to another and I found myself mixing our own music and fell in love with the process.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: Characterful but clear.

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: One artist I would love to work with would be The Voidz. The songwriting and sonics are so creative and strong, I find it very inspiring.

  34. A: Clarity and vibe. Pin sharp precision with a sense of energy and style.

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?
