Starting in 2009 our Americana-Jazz band has worked with Matt Emerson Brown on several music projects. He produced/mixed our very first 2010 album and produced/mixed a 2023 released single. Over a 14 year period Matt has always been a musician’s producer. By that I mean he has a point of view but is also a great listener, creative and intuitive. A musician himself, he’s gifted in coaxing the best from others. Technically excellent, he is low drama and a joy to be around. Paula Boggs Band will work with Matt again and we recommend him to others enthusiastically.

I used Matt Emerson Brown as mixing engineer for my last 2 records: Bound, Chained, Fettered - 2016 and The Gristle & Bone Affair – 2022. I was (and still am) totally satisfied with his work. Matt was actually recommended by my producer Chris Eckman. The first record was done in a more traditional manner with Matt sending me rough mixes and soliciting opinions. More often than not I’d just sign off and proceed forward. It was a complicated, full-throated project. Lots of moving parts and such but Matt always seemed to find a way to highlight what needed be heard

Matt was personally recommended to our band by Grammy-winning producer/engineer Tucker Martine when he was unavailable. They share many of the same traits… they hone in on what elements of a song make it special, and draw those out in creative ways. We have done seven projects together across multiple genres and in hindsight we were and continue to be extremely fortunate to work with someone who is not only an accomplished multi-instrumentalist but also creates a safe space for experimentation while still keeping his producer’s eye on the ball. Needless to say, highly recommended!

I've been working with Matt for over 10 years now during which time I have come to rely on his input throughout the recording process. His skill set is diverse and broad, doing great work engineering, mixing and producing for us, as well as making several musical contributions (I think of him as an auxiliary member of the band...). His coming from the artist's perspective also makes for comfortable collaboration, though he's certainly not afraid to challenge us when he thinks it's important.
