Endorse Philana- check_circleVerified
It's hard to find a female vocalist that can produce quality recordings and knows to stick to the work plan submitted. Philana took the time to understand the work required and delivered a flawless first submission. I asked for a unique vocal, nailed it. Highly recommend.

Philana was AMAZING to work with! Not only did she exceed my expectations with her production but she also helped me learn more about production and the industry as a whole. I will definitely be working with her again and recommend her to anyone that needs help with song production!
Philana is a first rate talent; musicianship, vocals,, songwriting and producing abilities are all top level pro. I have worked with her many times and every time it has been fun and we wound up with some amazing music.
Philana helped me create a mash-up for one of my wedding clients. She created a processional song for their ceremony and she made their wedding day dream come true! <3 She is the absolute best!
Philana is an incredible talent and such a pleasure to work with. She always brings a fresh creative perspective to any project, whether it's by being inventive and thoughtful with vocal delivery or finding ways to push the envelope in the songwriting and production process.
She is detail oriented and persistent in the best possible way - she won't stop until something is sitting just right - and I have every confidence she will always be a benefit to your projects.
Highly recommend!!
Philana is just incredibly gifted and talented as a vocalist, musician, producer, and arranger. She's also just a wonderful person that is a joy to work with. I always love working on projects with her!

Philana is an outstanding musician, producer, singer and human. I've worked with her on several projects and have only the highest respect and praise. She has a natural sense of melody (kills as a top liner) and a well rounded sense of balance. She understands the current trends but never sounds forced. Highly recommended.
Recording with Philana is unreal! In one session I learned more about my vocal range, timbre, and capability than I had in years! She is patient, supportive, and incredibly talented. She will bring out your best, then make it EVEN BETTER.
I have worked with Philana on several projects. Her professionalism is only matched by her massive talent.
She is a “Jane of all trades” in the music industry. She is a producer, arranger, composer, musician and singer.
It is a privilege to work with her.Philana is hands down one of the easiest people to work with- she brings her fun loving spirit and playful creativity to every project she works on. If you need something musical done,, Philana is going to knock it out of the park every time!
Interview with Philana
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Will I be included in the producing / mixing process? Yes. You 100% will.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That I'm just a singer / songwriter
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio is designed for mixing as well as tracking vocals. I'm a nature nerd and have found a way to incorporate it into my environment. (Ask me about moss walls as acoustic treatment! ) Uninterrupted creative flow is everything. So all my tools are within arms reach. My DAW is Logic. A weighted-key Korg D1 rolls out from my desk, my Apollo Twin sits to my left and to my right, a Slate M1 microphone gives me digital access to multiple world-renowned microphones including a Neumann U67 and Telefunken U47. In addition to my treated room, I enjoy mixing with Slate VSX Headphones which grant me access to multiple rooms and environments. Oh, and did I mention the moss walls? ; P
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I'm proud of the work I've done for some recent episodes of the show. There's nothing more fun than grabbing a coffee and then sitting down in the studio to bring a scene to life through music.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: A lot of music for The Young & Restless always. I write music for 3 sync libraries: Imaginary Friends, Steve Scharf Entertainment and Rareform Audio
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yes! Marc Frigo for mixing. Eric Barfield for keys. Ben Jackson for drums and the list goes on....
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I'm never going to dog analog. Personally, I'm digital because its more conducive to my particular work flow.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To make you feel heard, respected and to add that 'X factor' into your music in whatever way I can.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: It's not work. It's fun. It's become my identity and I'm good with that.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Are you under a deadline with your project? What goals would you like to reach with this project? (TV/film placement? Spotify?...) If I'm singing a vocal, would you like me to sing very specific notes or are you flexible with the way it is sung?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be clear with the direction you're going with for your musical project.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Apollo Twin, MacBook Pro, Neumann TLM 108, my Slate Audio VSX headphones, and a Yamaha P-125
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: 20+ years. I started out as a singer/songwriter, gigging all over Seattle, WA. I had my own 6-piece pop band called Philana. I started to 'guest' on the albums of friends who were producing their own music and got hooked. The freedom of recording all my own tracks was a total game changer. Now I'm enjoying doing it for others.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Emotive, Vibey With Big Builds
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Lewis Capaldi because that man's voice can bring someone to tears.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Stepping away from the canvas for a moment is essential for perspective!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop and all it's sub-genres: Indie, Cinepop, Dance....
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Communication. Whether it's during a consultation or getting an emotion across in the music.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Authenticity is key and so is staying relatable and relevant to your audience. For this reason, I'm always listening closely to pop trends in vocal technique and song production because in pop, they're always changing. It's a challenge and essential to stay ahead of them.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: It's all about the consultation. So that's very important for me. Email or a Zoom chat is preferred to nail down our mission. I like to know turn around time and what is inspiring for the project. In addition to these things, I like to ask what does my client NOT want. Which may sound funny, but it's great to get both ends of the spectrum to fill out the picture.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I admire Ben Bohmer, he's turns low-end into an art. Classically, Quincy Jones for turning EVERYthing into a hook, and I'm kinda obsessed with SZA's toplining right now.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I'm commonly asked to compose and produce the music around a song. I always mix & master it in high definition in case they'd like to shop it for film/TV.
