Interview with JTM Mixing and Mastering
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I'm a Mixing/Mastering Engineer, Recording Artiste, Music Producer and Label owner with almost 20 years of experience. As a music producer and engineer I've worked with numerous independent artist and major acts across different genres from demos to label or professional releases. While I almost exclusively mix and master these days, I still occasionally release projects on my label and work with a select few artist.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both, digital has more options, easier recall and you can have the same plugin on every track if you want to. Analog, make quicker decisions, the warmth , saturation and just the overall sound.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Drop me a message If you're unsure about anything, such as how to send stems and what quality or just need to discuss your project.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Flexible
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work on all genres.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Coming from a recording artist and music producer background, I believe is my strongest advantage and skill, as I have a better understanding of the thought process of creative people like recording artist and can engage and create and cultivate a comfortable process.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Mixing - Making sure that the artist creativity and vision is maintained as best as possible, while creating clarity, separation and cohesiveness to a the song. Mastering - Adding the final touches to that piece of art, that polish it needs to compete wherever it is played.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: When I receive a track for mastering, I usually do a quality check and provide the client with feedback in case anything needs fixing or I need the file in a different format or just to point out where I think things might need a bit of additional work. I then prep the session so that when its time to master, I can get started right away. Early on in the mastering stage, I would then decide if I should use mainly analog, digital or a mixture of both. Files are then sent to the client and I await approval or revisions if any.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work hybrid, both analog and digital, depending on what I think the track needs.
