Adam was very considerate of the direction and stylistic decisions I had regarding my vision and expectations. Was extremely pleased with his willingness to press through even some of the most difficult challenges in the mix as well as his honesty in different scenarios. Hope to work together in the foreseeable future and would definitely recommend him to anyone looking to further their mix. Just make sure you know what you want!

Adam is so incredibly talented and versatile. I came to him with a multi-genre track that I really needed outside ears on to finish and my song is all the much better for trusting him. He was really patient and managed to execute a huge number of notes with precision and there was a level of care throughout the process that never left me feeling worried about the outcome. His open communication and incredible skills made this project fly by and I absolutely want to work with him in the future.

Interview with Adam Tune

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Our latest keys N Krates album CURA. It was a special one for us.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Working on a Diplo Remix with Santigold and Little Yaghty

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Encatada Live - Best vocal tuner on here

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital. So much more freedom and less time consuming. And it's getting closer and closer

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I'm not happy unless you're happy

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I get to work on lots of different music and learn from every project I work on

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: How much haha.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That you have to have a big studio to get a big studio sound.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What Music are you listening to?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Find Someone who fits your vibe and doesn't have an ego

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Laptop and Hard Drive/ Headphones/ Midi Controller/ SPD-SX

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I was initially an engineer with a Big Broadcaster, recording orchestras and jazz groups, while also working on R&B at the time. I was always producing pop, but then got into electronic music with my group Keys N Krates

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Poppy, but I get down with a lot of underground music, so I have my ear to the ground of whats going on.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Probably Phil Collins. He was the first Cassette I had, and that would be really nostalgically cool for me. I few years ago I would have said Just Blaze, but I have now haha. He's an amazing producer.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Less is more. Sometimes you need to strip the track and introduce each element on its own and see what can stand on it's own. Sometimes people clutter songs and they don't need to. Also, take breaks and come back. I often take a 30 minute break and go listen to some other music and come back and start deleting bad ideas.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Pop/ Electronic/ Trap/ Rock

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Seeing what the artist was going for and not trying to push my vision on the artist. I would say creatively Mixing is my skill.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring my years of experience working with artists of all types. And also being an artist myself, I've been on the other side of this. I understand what its like. Sometimes you have to try things to know its not right.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Find the focus of the track. Sometimes its vocals, sometimes its a lead drop instrument. And complimenting the song rather than getting carried away with all the production tricks. Sometimes I spend days on a vocal sound and let the music be the background and thats all the track needed. I'm also a big believer in seeing the artists vision. I've used mixers to mix my groups music before and I love when I can have a good working relationship with them and they don't have an ego. I'm easy when It comes to changes and I don't charge for changes or have limits. It's done when its mastered and the artist is happy.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I used to mix on an SSL and NEVE console, with outboard gear, but with my heavy touring schedule, I do all my production and mixing in the box. UAD/ Fabfilter/ Soundtoys/ WAVES are my go to plugins and Omnisphere, Kontact, and samples are my go to VST instruments and production tools. Ears over gear.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Just Blaze, Cashmere Cat, Mura Masa, Machine drum, Justin Martin, Chris Lorenzo, Izniik.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Production/ Creative Mixing is what I mostly do. It can range from an artist handing me their acapella, and I build production around that, or they hand me a full song, and I replace certain sounds to make the track sound better as a whole. Sometimes its easier to replace a sound rather than just mix a bad sound.
