Rock/pop punk/alternative/metal guitarist with 20+ years experience. Engineering and mixing experience for 10+ years. Skilled in Logic Pro X.
I've worked with numerous bands throughout the years as a guitarist, primary songwriter and vocalist. While I specialize in rock, emo, punk, alternative - I have a soft spot for top 40 hits, indie, and folk as well. My current project, House Lights, is about to release our first full length album. You can check out our first EP on streaming, called House Lights - Stages.
Production: I love analyzing songs and finding what makes each unique yet memorable. I will work with you to perfect your ideas, suggest new ones, and organize your song to be the best version of it that it can be.
Guitar: I've played in studio and live settings for more than 2 decades. I can add exactly whatever your song needs, whether that be solid rhythms, a blistering lead part, or atmospheric sounds to fill the mix.
Vocal Editing/Comping: Vocals are the heart of your song. I've recorded hundreds of songs and know how to get the most out of anyone's vocals, without compromising the integrity of your voice and making you become robotic sounding (unless you want that!). Will offer suggestions for harmonies and melodies as well.

Interview with Mathew Laramie
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Anyone looking for incredible mixes should check out Agustín Pugh. He mixed my band's upcoming album and did an amazing job getting the sound we wanted.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital allows for so much experimentation in such a short amount of time that I think creatively I would hit a roadblock diving into analog as there are so much options at your disposal - I wouldn't be able to commit to a sound. With digital you can get your ideas to paper and tweak from there on out.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I feel like Trent Reznor would have so many awesome stories and tips to share.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: For vocalists: Sing with emotion, and then focus on technique. A good producer will let you know where to place the melody if you're having a hard time, but it's impossible to add 'feeling' to a part in post production. For guitarists: Keep it simple. Don't over complicate a part because you want to show off - sometimes the best thing to play is nothing at all.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock, post-hardcore, pop punk, emo, and everything in-between. I've dabbled in other genres like indie, pop, and even a little hip hop.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I'll typically start a song off with an idea for a riff, or a series of chords and build from there. Sometimes it's an idea I thought of in my head and other times I'll discover something new as I play. I try to have Logic open and ready to record when I'm practicing as it allows me to capture ideas on the fly and not miss out or forget anything.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Two Yamaha HS5 monitors, an Apollo Twin interface, Logic Pro X, multiple guitars including an Ibanez RG170b and an Epiphone Les Paul that's my primary instrument of choice, a bass guitar, electronic drum set, ASIS midi keyboard/controller, AT20-20 mic with wrap around vocal shield/pop filter, second display, acoustic treatment and 9 Miley Cyrus vinyls hanging on the wall.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Musicians: Alexisonfire, Funeral for a Friend, Linkin Park, Brand New, Blink-182, Tool
