Interview with Eddie Calderon

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: I think it really comes down to your workflow. I've used analog gear before and I like it, but for my workflow, I do everything digital. It's much faster, more efficient, and sounds just as good.

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: My 'promise' is that I will do whatever it takes to help your song reach the best form it possibly can. Whether it's going back and forth on mix drafts, staying up late to polish up a mix, or adding production elements to spice up what is already there.

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: I LOVE to create. Many people think that working as a producer, mixer, or masterer is a technical job where you can't be very creative, but I've found that Mixing is just as much as a creative art as songwriting or production is!

  7. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  8. A: I have been working in the music industry professionally for 4 years. I obtained my degree in music production from the Los Angeles Recording School, and since then have been working on my working with different bands/artists, along with my own EDM project that I release music under!

  9. Q: How would you describe your style?

  10. A: My style has always been laid back, but passionate. I am willing to put in whatever leg work is needed to make a song reach its final form, but at the same time, I like to keep the vibes of a job friendly, fun, and enjoyable. I think that being a good hang is THE most important thing in the music industry.

  11. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  12. A: I would love to work with one of my EDM inspirations (ILLENIUM, Said the Sky, Dabin, Martin Garrix, Zedd), or one of my favorite bands in the rock//metal space (Spiritbox, Bad Omens, State Champs, Set It Off)!

  13. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  14. A: One tip I have is to really to get learn and understand exactly what your tools are doing. I think that understanding your tools and what they can do is key to a great production, mix, and master. That way you can make informed and quick decisions while working, instead of constantly fighting and second guessing yourself.

  15. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  16. A: I typically work on Rock / Metal music, but have done songs in almost so many genres I've stopped keeping track.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: I usually begin by asking artists and/or bands for any references, and what kind of vibe they want their track to have. Afterwards, I'll listen to any demos or recordings of the song, then begin to start working on a mix with the stems I get.

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: My studio setup includes a MacBook Pro (M4 Max Chip), a UAD Apollo Twin X QUAD, DT 700 Headphones from Beyerdynamic, and JBL 350P Monitors.

  21. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  22. A: ILLENIUM, Jordan Fish, Daniel Braunstein, Buster Odeholm, Cam Becker, Joey Sturgis, and Jack Antonoff to name a few of my inspirations!

  23. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  24. A: I most commonly do full productions of songs, from the start of recording, all the way to final mix and masters. But i also have done a fair bit of purely mixing work!
