Interview with Andrés LLona
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I participated and helped in the production of the fifth contemporary music festival UC de Chile, where I was able to see a lot of high quality contemporary music and also I was able to present my work for two percussion sets "Golpes Festivos". This experience was very nutritious and gave me great enthusiasm to continue producing music.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: At this moment I am uploading my music to different platforms to sell classical and cinematic music. And I am also creating more contemporary classical music, and classical with durations between 8 to 20 minutes.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I prefer digital since I don't depend on a limited number of instruments, if I need an orchestra I have it, if I need Indian instruments I have them on my PC and I can use them, take them out, try without needing a person. Digital instruments have given a great possibility to composers and producers so that their music can be heard and not only as a demo but in a professional and very high quality way.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Creativity and musical quality.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I like the most is the challenge that exists when creating music from scratch. Ideas come and produce something new that did not exist before. As well as working in music editing and production, creating something of great quality.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Perhaps that classical and contemporary music is only for intellectual people and that is wrong, anyone can listen to this type of music, you just need to listen to it and acquire a taste, just like what happens with food.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: For what media do you need music and what is the emotional effect you want to provoke?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I advise you to be clear about what you need the music for and what you want to achieve. If it is a cartoon or a video game, or a commercial, not only do you have to use pop or rock songs, orchestral music is also very expressive and can achieve a greater emotional and attentional effect.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My PC (Notebook), headphones and midi Keyboard. I only need 3 things because I have learned to use software for musical composition and production
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: My career began at the age of 12 with the classical romantic guitar. Then for 6 years I created a rock-pop band, creating more than 40 songs. My studies began at the National University of the Arts in Buenos Aires, learning contemporary electronic music. Then my studies went to the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile where I finished my Bachelor's degree in music. Here I learned classical and contemporary orchestral music. And finally, in 2022 I finished the Master of Arts at the same university, focusing my thesis on contemporary learned music for videogames, getting interesting results in terms of how contemporary music emotionally affects and directs the events that appear in the different video frames. Now I am starting to sell and promote my music, as well as I am looking for a job to exploit all my skills as a musician, composer and music producer.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I would describe my style as contemporary classic. But one with a kinder touch and more emotional expression. He combined the freedom of the contemporary scholarly classical genre with classically romantic harmonies, which allows for greater auditory acceptance.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would like to work with Hans Zimmer, because he is a musician who has done various jobs and little by little has become famous. In addition, he creates cinematic orchestral music from great movies in which I could also have great contributions from an academic perspective like the one I have learned.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: You don't necessarily need only instrumentalists to produce music, you also have digital instruments that are increasingly quality and can give you a wide variety of instruments without depending on a human.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Contemporay, classic, Orchestral, electronic, electro contemporary. Rock, Pop.
