Cris Simoes is a mixing Engineer/Producer graduated in Musicians Institute School in Los Angeles California. In his Pacific Studio he mixes and produces hit records in his SSL 4000 E series console. He's been working with big names in Brazilian pop , rock and country music (with several gold records sales credits) as well as foreign bands and artists. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: The last Live concert I mixed. Its a very famous Brazilian Country singer. She is a grammy winner artist. I hope she wins with this new record too.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am mixing one song from Jerry Barnes (bassist from CHIC) solo album.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yes, Carlos Freitas to master your mixed tracks.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Hybrid, but I do 80% analog mixes.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Do my best!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: When people are happy whan I am finished.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Can you make me sound big? I say yes. lol
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Thinking about I am gonna do a great sound with a poor quality recording.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: How they recorded, if they think they are done producing, ruff mix, etc
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make the tracks sound good before mixing. Than I am gonna be able to enhance the quality of your work.

Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started as musician when I was a kid. Than, I moved to Los Angeles and graduated in recording in Musicians Instititue School, I than moved back to Brazil where I built my Pacific Studio. I have been mixing and producing for 15 years now.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Focused, Fast and confident.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would like to work with people from All over the world to make my work worldwide known.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Yes, Always pay attention to the 3 main elements on the song, and make them shine.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop, Rock, Metal, Country, Gospel, Reggae, etc
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Mixing
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Punch, feeling and Dynamics.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I Download the tracks, have my assistant to organize the session on the board, put the faders up and start mixing. When I am finished I print a lot of stems for recall.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work with an SSL 4000 E series Console 48 channel. I also own a lot of outboard gear, like neve 33609, Pultec, UA 1176, Urei 1178, Distressors, Fatso, lexicon 480, tube tech, Api 2500, barefoot speakers, etc
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I have been inspired by a lot of people. But the ones that really inspires me is Chris Lord Lage and Michael Brauer , that I had the chance to studied with.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common Type of work I do is Mixing. It's great to make online mixes because I can work with people from all around the world. I use my SSL console and print stems to make the recall. Its very fast and easy.
