Nicolas was a pleasure to work with, his instructions were crystal clear and the files he sent me for mixing were perfectly prepared and easy to work with. I really enjoyed mixing his instrumental track for him and I'd be more than happy to work with him again in the future.
I have always been impressed by Nico's crystal clear mixes. His exceptional professionalism and responsiveness makes him a top choice for anyone looking to hire a mixing engineer. He is very reliable and able to work with quick deadlines. Can't recommend him highly enough.
For my first film, “This Is What I Want to Do”, I delivered what I considered a pre-mix at the time. Being an independent filmmaker highly interested in film sound, I was quite happy with what I did, especially with the dialogue. So obviously I was pretty excited what he’d come up with. When I received the stereo mix of the film, it was not better than what I gave him. It was something completely different, on another level. He transformed the film so elegantly and confidently, that I was blown away. I didn’t think that this would’ve been possible. If I could give six stars, I would.
Nicolas is one of the most highly talented engineers and composers in the business. He over delivers and exceed expectations on each project I provide to him. I was thoroughly impressed by his knowledge of audio and careful attention to detail. That's why I will continue to utilize his services on future projects to come.
Nico shows his professionalism in almost every field. He is very thorough and careful with all music tech related stuff, using his knowledge to get the music to its cleanest and best sounding possible.
Besides, his personality is very cordial as well as direct. This makes communication easy and, in general, a satisfying experience of working together.Nicolas is one of the best mix engineers I've ever worked with. In addition to respecting the artist's vision, he knows how to add the touch that will make all the difference, thanks to his mixing skills. An incredible human being and an excellent mix engineer.
Interview with Nicolas Schuele
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I've recently composed an 87-minute score for a feature film, but due to time and budget constraints, I also mixed and mastered the entire audio, not only the music but also the FX and dialogues.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Currently, I'm engaged in composing and mixing for several projects, each showcasing a diverse range of cinematic styles. This includes working on an independent film score that features a blend of orchestral and electronic elements, and mixing tracks for a documentary series.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: A common question is about my turnaround time for projects. I emphasize my commitment to efficiency without compromising on quality, ensuring timely delivery that meets the high standards of the film and music industry.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: One common misconception is that mixing and mastering are just technical tasks. In reality, they are as much about creative decision-making as they are about technical expertise. It involves understanding the emotional and narrative aspects of the music, not just adjusting levels and applying effects. My role is to enhance the artistic vision, ensuring that the final mix resonates deeply with the intended audience.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Look for someone who not only has technical expertise but also a deep understanding of storytelling through music. Ensure they have a portfolio that resonates with your artistic vision and check for diverse experience in different music genres. Communication is key, so choose a provider who actively listens to your needs and is open to collaboration. Lastly, consider someone who can bring a unique perspective to your project, adding value beyond just technical skills.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would be delighted to work with Abel Korzeniowski because for many years, his scores have been my main source of inspiration. Both from a composition and a sonic perspective.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: My number one tip would be "You can't mix what you can't hear." It means that before mucking around with technology and processes, one should first train their ears.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I mostly work on orchestral, classical and hybrid film/TV productions.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio setup is a blend of high-quality gear and software tailored for film scoring and audio mixing. It includes a powerful computer, professional-grade monitors, and a wide range of high-end audio plugins.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am heavily influenced by the mixes from modern scores by John Powell, Steve Jablonski, Abel Korzeniowski, and Howard Shore.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: My main activity is film scoring but I also take on mixing and mastering jobs from clients all over the world.
