Professional Double Bassist

The double bass player Mihalis Kalkanis stands out among the representatives of the new generation of Greek jazz musicians. He comes from a musical family and participates in the most important forms of the genre. He is a particularly daring and creative musician and composer, successfully experimenting and offering us unpredictable music.

As a bassist he has collaborated on recordings and live performances with international names of songwriters and performers such as Tom Baxter, Liset Alea (Nouvelle Vague), Adam Cohen and many more, as well as with some of the most important Greek songwriters and musicians. He also participates in concerts of the Athens State Orchestra. He stands out as a pioneering double bassist for his impressive intonation with the bow and his unique pizzicato sound. His band 'Mihalis Kalkanis Group' is among the top emerging Greek instrumental bands and has participated in the most important Greek festivals as well as in festivals in Spain and Cyprus. As a session musician he is noted for his phraseology and his signature sound as well as for the aesthetics and the creative mood with which he works on music by other artists.
