Interview with dabz flp

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I produced and mixed a track for a Nigerian artist that hit over 500k streams. We started with a rough melody idea, and I helped shape the full production, arranged vocals, and delivered the final mix. It stood out because it blended traditional Afrobeats with futuristic sound design — and the feedback has been amazing.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Currently producing an EP for a UK-based Afro-fusion artist, mixing a Drill track for a client in Lagos, and creating a few custom Amapiano beats for sync licensing.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Yes — depending on the project, I can recommend trusted vocalists, engineers, or session players I’ve worked with for quality results.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital — because of the flexibility and speed it offers. With today’s tools and techniques, you can still achieve analog warmth with digital precision.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I’ll give your music the same attention and detail I’d give my own. You’ll always get honest communication, creative input, and a track that’s polished and industry-ready.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Turning ideas into real, finished songs that people connect with. There’s nothing like seeing an artist light up when they hear their vision come to life.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: "Can you make a beat that sounds like [artist]?" Yes, I can create something inspired by that sound, but I’ll always add a unique touch to make it yours.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That producers just “make beats.” A good producer helps shape the entire song — structure, emotion, dynamics, and performance. It’s more than just laying drums.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I ask about their vision for the song, reference tracks, key themes, target audience, and how involved they want to be in the process. The more context I have, the better the result.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Look for someone who listens before they create. Great production starts with understanding your sound and goals. Also, check their previous work to see if their style aligns with yours.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Laptop, DAW MIDI keyboard (Akai MPK Mini) Apollo Twin interface Rode NT1 mic Headphones (Beyerdynamic DT 770)

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I’ve been producing for over 8 years. I started making beats for friends, then moved into working with local artists, and eventually expanded internationally. Over time, I’ve refined my sound and process into a professional, client-focused service.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Clean, soulful, and rhythmic. I like to mix lush melodies and atmospheric textures with tight drums and grooves that make people move. My sound is polished but never sterile — it carries emotion and bounce.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Burna Boy. He’s versatile, open-minded, and always pushes boundaries with his sound. I think our styles would mesh well, blending depth with energy.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Don’t overcrowd your beat. Give your sounds room to breathe — especially if vocals are going on it. Simplicity with intention is more powerful than complexity without direction.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I primarily work on Afrobeats, Amapiano, Hip-Hop, R&B, and UK Drill. Many of my productions live at the intersection of these genres, mixing Afro rhythms with trap drums or soulful chords with log drums and percussive bounce.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Blending African and Western music influences in a way that feels natural and modern. I have a strong ear for melody and rhythm, and I’m great at building songs that feel current while still being rooted in culture.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring energy, emotion, and clarity. Whether it’s a soulful R&B joint or a bouncy Amapiano cut, I make sure the track has impact and depth. I focus on arrangement, dynamics, and space — so each element has its moment and the vocals shine.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: It starts with understanding the artist’s vision — the vibe, references, and emotion they’re aiming for. I usually begin with a melody or chord progression, then layer drums and percussion to create a groove. Once the beat is done, I assist with vocal arrangement, and finally, mix and polish the track for release.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: My studio is built for both creativity and precision. I use FL Studio and Ableton Live, paired with industry-standard plugins like FabFilter, Waves, and Kontakt libraries. I run everything through an Apollo Twin interface, KRK monitors, and a treated space for accurate mixing. For vocals, I use a Rode NT1 and Focusrite preamps for clean, detailed recordings.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Producers like Sarz, JAE5, Juls, and P2J inspire me — they’re masters at blending Afro rhythms with modern textures. I also admire Timbaland and Metro Boomin for their innovation and consistency. Their ability to evolve sound while staying true to their roots is something I strive for in my work.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I specialize in producing custom beats and full tracks in Afrobeats, Amapiano, R&B, Hip-Hop, and Drill. Most of my clients come to me for complete production — from scratch-made beats to vocal arrangement and mixing. I also do beat remakes and help artists shape their sound to be competitive and authentic.
