Composer, songwriter, beatmaker and producer - experienced in a variety of genres and styles ranging from epic, cinematic scores, hip-hop, pop and children's music.
I am a composer, writing music in a wide range of styles, from intensely epic, cinematic tracks to ambient, synth-driven underscores, hip hop beats to popular children’s music.
I have written a multitude of music and lyrics for the children’s entertainment brand Blippi since 2021 as well as working with various publishers on production music libraries.
Through studying an MA in Composition of Music for Film and TV and subsequent work within the industry, I have spent years developing skills in compositional and songwriting techniques, writing in a vast range of styles (orchestral, electronic, pop, hip hop, reggae, folk) and crafting music for both production libraries and bespoke scores.
Across all of my work, my core belief is that the music should compliment and enhance the visual element, the narrative and the atmosphere and convey a strong sense of emotion, further drawing the viewer in with an empathetic understanding of what they are experiencing.
From an early age I began learning drums and then later piano, both of which gave a competent understanding of how to compose and arrange music. I’ve used this knowledge to spend the last fifteen years exploring different styles and genres, writing a diverse range of music whilst maintaining and developing a signature sound which incorporates a strong sense of rhythm and fusion of varying genre elements.

Endorse Sam BurgessSam produced an original song for us, taking it from raw recordings to a professional standard track with a big sound. Working with Sam was effortless and enjoyable, with him willing to try ideas of ours, and also providing creative ideas of his own. Sam’s communication throughout the process was excellent and his turnaround for each iteration was incredibly prompt.
Working with someone who truly cared about our project led to us being incredibly pleased with the end result. We will absolutely be looking to work with him again in the future.
Interview with Sam Burgess
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The opportunity to convey the desired emotion into a visual piece. Whether it is fear, suspense, hope or sentimentality, I believe that even if the viewer is absorbing the sound passively or subconsciously, the music is predominantly what carries or at the very least significantly enhances the evocative nature of a scene.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: I would take a cajón, handpan, maracas, guitar and a bodhrán. I've always wanted to learn the bodhrán, what a perfect opportunity.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I graduated from my MA in 2021. During this period I also began working freelance on the brand Blippi. Since then I have been working both on Blippi and well as with various publishers on production music libraries.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I would say that my style reflects the range of sources of inspiration that I listen to which results in implementing features of hip hop, orchestral and world music into my compositions.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Cristobal Tapia De Veer. I would love the chance to work alongside him and see his process. He has such a unique quality in his work that ranges from project to project but always carries his undeniably quirky signature sound.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Having 16 years of experience as a drummer I feel that the most prominent USP which appears across my work is a rich percussive quality both rhythmically and texturally.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Currently working at my home studio setup with Logic Pro X, East West Composer Cloud, NI Komplete 13 and various other software. For hardware I am using a 2020 MacBook Pro, Focusrite Scarlett Solo, KRK Rokit 5's, an M-Audio Keystation 61es, and AKAI MPK mini, a RØDE NT1-A and various percussion instruments.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Cristobal Tapia De Veer, The Alchemist, Madlib, Bear McCreary, Atticus Ross, Aphex Twin, Four Tet, H. Scott Salinas, ODESZA, Ramin Djawadi, Gustavo Santaolalla, Labrinth, Nicholas Britell, Solar Fields
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: My work varies quite largely depending on the nature of the brief but the most common work I have been doing recently is writing and producing the music and lyrics for the children's entertainment brand Blippi and working on album briefs for production music libraries.
