My passion for improv soloing translates into specialized custom guitar riffs, solos, and rhythm chords for your songs. I want to do everything I can to help make your music stand out and shine with deliberate, energizing solos that will set the mood, establish the groove, and kick your song into high gear! Interview with Chris App
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital because of the versatility and accessibility for a broader reach of musicians to deliver high-quality work without needing thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of dollars for equipment.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to put my heart (sounds cheesy but it's true) into the riffs and solos I create for your music because this is my favorite thing I could possibly work on, and while it takes a lot of effort, it's pure joy when the final result is reached.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is your song's chord structure? What style are you aiming for? Is there anything you have in mind for a solo or riff you would like me to aim towards?
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: This is currently my side job but have been producing music for nearly 10 years.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I would describe my style as groovy blues with an upbeat indie twist.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: While a compressor can be very useful, it is not explicitly necessary if the track is recorded well and may better serve the song to avoid using it if possible.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I recently released two of my songs, "Amethyst Kiss" and "Blue Water" that have been very positively received. I was the composer, producer, mixer, guitarist, and singer-songwriter for both of these tracks.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am working on my own singles that vary between instrumentals and traditional vocals.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I absolutely recommend working with Nate Kohrs for music production and Brandon Chase for pop/country vocals.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Dan Auerbach from The Black Keys since he works with many artists from different genres to create some really interesting tracks and ideas.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on Indie Pop/Rock, Blues, Funk, and Lo-Fi songs.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is my knack for creativity and execution when making a riff or solo from scratch.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a unique ability to create catchy/memorable riffs and provide guitar solos that are tailored to each song (not shredding unless specifically requested). I take a lot of pride in my ability to create these melodies that enhance the song's energy.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I receive the basic song structure, including chords, and then I send back the riffs/solos the customer wants. I offer 2 revisions per service unless there are major revisions required.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I use a Pro Studio One 5 DAW, a Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 AI, & Boss ME-80 Effects Pedal. My guitar collection includes an American Ultra Stratocaster and a Taylor GS Mini-e Koa.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: John Mayer, KALEO, The Black Keys, Bruce Springsteen, Marcus King, and Eddie Hazel are some of my music role models.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I love guitar work involving the creation of solos and riffs, but I also thrive with rhythm and chord structures. While I am relatively new to SoundBetter, I have worked with premium singers and producers on some of my own tracks, so I am familiar with the SoundBetter job process.
