Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

A: One project I am especially proud of is The Masterpiece, a large-scale hip-hop album built around boom bap, sampling and international collaborations. I served as producer, DJ and creative director, shaping the sound, arrangements, scratches and overall artistic identity of the project.

Q: What are you working on at the moment?

A: I am currently producing and developing new hip-hop releases, vinyl projects and international collaborations, while continuing work on my own catalog as DJ Mad Pee. My focus remains on boom bap, sample-based production, turntablism and artist development.

Q: Analog or digital and why?

A: Both. I love the character, imperfections and physical workflow of analog gear, especially turntables and sampling, but I also use digital tools for precision, flexibility and recall. The final sound matters more than the format.

Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

A: I promise clear communication, respect for your artistic vision and professional delivery. My goal is to make every record stronger without removing the character that makes it unique.

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: Turning an idea into a finished record with its own identity. I enjoy the moment when production, vocals, scratches and mix all come together and the artist hears the song exactly as it was meant to feel.

Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A: “Can you make it sound professional without losing its raw character?” My answer is yes. My goal is to improve clarity, impact and balance while preserving the personality and emotion that make the record unique.

Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

A: That producing hip-hop is simply finding a sample and adding drums. Great production is about selection, groove, arrangement, sound design, space, dynamics and understanding how every element supports the artist.

Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

A: What is your vision for the song? What artists or records are your references? What do you want the listener to feel? I also ask about deadline, format, budget and exactly what services are needed.

Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A: Choose someone whose sound and musical taste connect with your vision, not just someone with good equipment. Clear references, communication and trust are essential to getting the best result.

Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

A: Two Technics 1200s, my Pioneer DJM-S7, an MPC, and a reliable pair of studio headphones. With that setup I can create, sample, scratch, arrange and keep making records anywhere.

Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

A: I started in hip-hop in 1993 and have spent more than three decades developing as a DJ, turntablist and producer. My career grew from DJ culture and scratch competitions into production, mixing, mastering, collaborations and full project development for artists across Latin America and beyond.

Q: How would you describe your style?

A: Raw, soulful and detailed. My style combines 90s boom bap aesthetics, hard drums, sample-based textures, turntablism and a modern approach to mixing and arrangement.

Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

A: Nas. His voice, writing and connection to classic New York hip-hop would fit naturally with the kind of sample-driven, cinematic and boom bap production I create.

Q: Can you share one music production tip?

A: Do not overcrowd the arrangement. A strong drum groove, the right sample, solid low end and space for the vocal will usually make a record hit harder than adding unnecessary layers.

Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

A: I mainly work on boom bap, Latin hip-hop, underground hip-hop and sample-based music, with a strong influence from 90s New York production. I also work on soulful, cinematic and jazz-influenced hip-hop.

Q: What's your strongest skill?

A: My strongest skill is building authentic hip-hop records from the ground up. I combine sample-based production, groove, arrangement, scratch techniques and detailed mixing to give each track a strong identity while respecting the artist’s vision.

Q: What do you bring to a song?

A: I bring more than three decades of hip-hop experience, a strong sense of groove, authentic turntablism and a detailed production ear. My goal is to give every song identity, impact and musical character without losing the artist’s original vision.

Q: What's your typical work process?

A: I start by understanding the artist’s vision, references and final goal. From there I build or refine the production, arrangement and sonic direction. I focus on groove, low end, vocal clarity and character, then deliver organized revisions and final files ready for release.

Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

A: My setup is built around a hybrid hip-hop workflow using Logic Pro, MPC, turntables and professional analog/digital processing. I work with Technics 1200s, Pioneer and Vestax DJ mixers, Focusrite Clarett conversion, KRK monitoring and a wide range of Waves.

Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

A: DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Large Professor, Marley Marl, Q-Tip, DJ Babu, DJ Craze and Quincy Jones. I am especially influenced by producers and DJs who combine strong musical identity, raw texture, groove and attention to detail.

Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

A: I produce, mix and develop hip-hop records, specializing in boom bap, Latin hip-hop and sample-based production. I also provide professional scratch sessions, arrangement, creative direction and final mix/master preparation for independent artists and labels.
