Jim Spencer on SoundBetter

Credits include New Order, Johnny Marr, The Charlatans, Black Grape, Henge. I specialise in mixing and music production, with multiple gold and platinum awarded albums to my name

With 30 years in the industry, I have produced, engineered and mixed several albums for The Charlatans, New Order and Electronic amongst many others. I have a passion for recording and mixing music, and enjoy shaping great music into great sounding records. My studio is a purpose built mixing environment with great acoustics and all the gear I need to make amazing sounding records.
With a background as a keyboard player, I have toured Europe as part of Johnny Marrs band supporting Oasis.
I am also the head of Eve Mastering at Eve studios in Manchester. Eve’s mastering equipment is ultra rare, and includes vintage BBC radiophonic workshop era equipment. Combined with cutting edge digital tools, I specialise in getting great sounding masters. Mastering credits include Chloe Foy, Ostereo Records, and many more.

Jim brought his long experience and brilliant talent to 3 mixes of a song i sent to him. The whole process and end result in all 3 instances was 100% brilliant. The mixes he promptly delivered elevated the song to a beautiful high level. The song sounds so alive and vibrant. Everything in all the song mixes sounds so perfect. Jim's sound design skills and attention to every detail were outstanding. Top class production work in all aspects. I hope to be able to repeat this fabulous experience.

  20. A: I started of as a piano player, but landed a job at a top residential studio in the UK called Chapel Studios. I quickly progressed to head engineer, and after 3 years went freelance engineering and then mixing the 2nd album for a band called Electronic, featuring Johnny Marr(The Smiths), Bernard Sumner (New Order), and Karl Bartos (Kraftwerk). I continued working alongside Johnny Marr for 12 years and went on to produce records for many artists over the following years. I became the head of EVE mastering in 2017.
