Hi! My name is Matt. I have worked as a music producer and mixing engineer for over 10 years, with my productions racking up a total of over 8,000,000 streams across Spotify / Apple Music / Amazon Music. I have personally produced and written tracks released under labels such as Atlantic / Warner, Universal, Bluenote, Astralwerks and Hip Dozer.
Based in London, I spend day and night working on my own projects, while working with artists in my spare time, providing mix, mastering, and production services to help them achieve their creative goals.

Matt is an absolute pleasure to work with, and crazy talented! He instinctively understood what I wanted and also contributed really great creative ideas to my track. I definitely recommend him...especially if you want a super vibey, modern sound. I plan to work with Matt again for sure!
It was a pleasure working with Matt! He is a very talented producer who showed a lot of care and dedication throughout the process. He has a calming presense which I really appreciated as an artist and vocalist. It made the session super fluid and fun. I'm really happy with how the song came out and would highly recommend him!
Matt is my favourite producer/engineer to go to and I always enjoy my sessions with him.
As an artist, comfortability is very important and this is something Matt provides due to his patience, open mind and friendly nature.
I admire Matt’s strong work ethic, he is very accommodating and always ensures every session is a productive one!As an artist and songwriter Matt has been nothing other than a revelation to work with. A consistent and innovative producer, Matt's work ethic and professionalism is a joy to behold when he works his magic. There hasn't been a session where I haven't learnt something new about music in general and I'm very appreciative for the time and patience he's always taken to work with me.
Interview with Matt Jackson-Cook
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I am especially proud of my work working with Bluenote & Astralwerks records on their 'Drift Off' record, as it's a dream come true working for these labels and collaborators.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am working on a series of audio plugins!
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I have worked with several providers on SoundBetter for everything from mixing, to production, to keyboardists/vocalists. If you need recommendations, please drop me a note!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital is the depressing answer, because it's highly convenient and works 90% of the time! But that doesn't mean I don't prefer working with analog.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise you'll be taking your track to the next level. And ultimately, you'll learn from it, so you can take back my style to your next productions.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: EVERYTHING! But the best part is doing what I am obsessed with for free.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Customers often ask me how to nail synth sounds for their tracks! My answer is this - rely on ONE or TWO synth VSTs and get to know them well. Ideally one that is an analog emulation like Repro-5, and one that is a wavetable synth like Serum.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That a great song comes from lots of complicated layers! Less is more.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I want to know what they want as a final result from a project. What frustrations are you having with your track at current?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Get someone who has songs within your taste!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Neumann KH310 Monitors Macbook Pro Prophet 08 Audeze Headphones If I'm allowed Plugins... U-he Diva & NI Battery!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started out as a musician from an early age, and proceeded into music production when I first got garageband at 10 years old. Becoming a bit obsessed on how to replicate many of the records I listened to growing up, this has given me a bit of an analytical edge on making songs sound good!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Soulful Electronica
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: If I could go back in time - I would work with The Beatles.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Less is more!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Electronica, Indie, Pop Music, Rock, Hip Hop
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I pride myself on my ability to take an artists' song to the next level while still maintaining it's original flavour - I'm not here to make it my own!
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My expertise in sound design, music production, mixing & mastering help me take an idea to the finish line. Producing in Garageband since I was 10, and moving onto Ableton when I was 16 (I am now 28!) I have had plenty of experience learning the best ways to make a song the best it can be.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Typically I will import stems from a client, and make decisions on what needs to be done to make the track(s) the best it can be. This might consist of trying new instrument sounds, tuning and processing vocals, trying new drum sounds, and trying new effects. Then I'll typically send to the client for feedback, and proceed to mix & master once we're happy with the production.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a professional audio setup inclusive of Neumann KH 310 Monitors, a Mac Pro, several analog synthesizers and pieces of hardware. After 10 years or so of collecting gear, I am increasingly working in-the-box, as I think it improves my workflow!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I move on to different music often, but I grew up on a stable diet of electronica & indie like Tame Impala, Caribou, Tourist, Disclosure & Maribou State.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I love working on Electronica, Pop & Indie tracks for my clients! Typically I'll be brought in as a producer to help turn a rough idea into a fully fledged track, complete with production, mixing and mastering.
