I hired Maya Roxo to record backing vocals for several songs, and I'm so happy with the harmonies and bv ideas she was able to come up with. She used her voice in a way that worked very well together with my own voice and for the role of bv's. A bonus was that she also gave me many tracks of each individual voice so that I had the choice of making my own little choir. Will definitely be coming to her again in the future!

Maya created a full service custom anniversary song for me and my partner and not only did she nail the music style I was going for she is also a gifted song writer. She can turn mundane details of your story into something poetic and original. I’m definitely going back to her and highly recommend any of her services. Hugs from Toronto!

Maya Roxo is a true professional!

I have worked with her on a couple of productions for Indiego North, and they always exceeded my expectations! She has a very melodic ear, and pays attention to detail. She always catches the vibe and feel of any song!

Maya delivers plenty of tracks, takes and ad-libs to chose from. She delivers on time, files are easy to find and sort, and they are easily imported and further adjusted according to whatever project default filters and settings you may have.

I highly recommend Maya and will use her again!

Interview with J Roxo Productions

  1. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  2. A: That you will be very satisfied with the final product, and we will strive to put a smile on your face whilst doing so.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: The amount of different music that we encounter along the way, to see the vast amounts of creativity that exists in this world with fellow musicians. There is also a magical feeling about creating art from nothing.

  5. Q: How would you describe your style?

  6. A: This changes widely from project to project, but when we work together as a team on our own projects, we love working in the style of dramatic powerful pop. Combining classical orchestration with contemporary and electronic instruments, we bridge the gap between cinematic and mainstream pop music.

  7. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  8. A: Cinematic, Pop, Electro-Pop, Epic Orchestral/hybrid, Acoustic Pop, Alternative Rock, Pop-Rock

  9. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  10. A: I have a strong toolbox both as a vocalist and as a songwriter. I've been a professional singer for a decade, and throughout this time explored a lot of different musical styles and genres which I can take inspiration from. I have a characterizing vocal as an artist which I can choose to adjust in a way that will suit your song. I have also worked with different songwriters all over the world as well as got direct feedback from some of the world's top songwriters. This has introduced me to many different approaches and techniques to choose from. - Maya

  11. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  12. A: Energy! My promise to you is that I will never record a song without putting my heart in the performance. - Maya I want to help develop your project by offering a new creative perspective, coming from my extensive knowledge as a theoretical and practical musician, producer and composer. - Jadon

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: What is your intended outcome with the project, and what emotions would you want the music to incite.

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: Hire someone who has the will-power to make your project the best it can be. Passion cannot be faked, especially with music, and it will be noticed if it's missing. J Roxo always goes all-in.

  17. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  18. A: I've been singing and performing professionally for more than a decade. My story starts back in my hometown in Norway where I performed at a big variety of shows, musicals, and events. In the beginning, I would always perform covers, but after a while, I discovered my passion for songwriting as well. From there I went on to study music in Norway before I moved to Liverpool at the age of 20 to study at Paul McCartney's Institute for Performing Arts. After graduating I dove into the music industry head first, and I have since then had the opportunity to get to know incredible musicians all over the world, and collaborate with them, all whilst building my own music career. My self-released music has been played on radio stations both internationally as well as all over the UK, and it has gained attention from blogs based in Mexico as well as France. - Maya Roxo

  19. Q: What's your typical work process?

  20. A: As a songwriter, I like to start very traditionally, often using my guitar. I make sure the meaning, story, and goal of the song are in the center throughout the creation of the song. Depending on how personal and specific the client wants the song to be, I do my absolute best to include all your details while at the same time not making the lyrics too cheesy (unless you want that). I love painting pictures and I always want to emotionally touch the listener. As a vocalist, I always make sure to carefully listen to the song and brief to make sure I understand the meaning and the emotions you want me to convey. When I get to the recording stage I focus on providing you with a lot of takes to choose and pick from! I like to explore using different vocal techniques to achieve the sound you're after. In the end, I always have fun recording some extra ad-libs that you can choose to include as some ear candy. -Maya

  21. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  22. A: I recently wrote and produced music for a new Disney Channel series which will be airing later in 2022!

  23. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  24. A: EP + music for film and TV

  25. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  26. A: BoomFox Productions and Sefi Carmel.

  27. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  28. A: That mastering is just turning the volume up XD

  29. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  30. A: A Mac, guitar, microphone, audio interface and some very nice headphones.

  31. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  32. A: Bishop Briggs! I love her songwriting style, how honest she is, as well as her powerful voice. Writing with Ina Wroldsen would also be a dream come true. I've looked up to her for years. - Maya

  33. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  34. A: One thing I like to consider whilst producing is to occupy the whole frequency spectrum, from low to high. To explain what I mean i'll use an acoustic drum kit as an example. The kick drum brings the deep and low frequencies, the snare and toms create the middle frequencies and then the cymbals round it off with their high frequencies. Overall, the acoustic drum kit has a very balanced sound across the whole range of frequencies, giving a full and rounded sound. When applying this mind set to production, you've got the bass and kick occupying the lower frequencies, then instruments like synths, guitars and pianos, as well as the vocals taking up the mid frequencies, and then hi-hats or shakers etc within the high frequencies. Obviously this approach changes track to track and style to style. With an intimate acoustic guitar and vocal track, you're mostly going to be occupying the middle frequencies and that is certainly all you need in that style. In other styles, if you're going for that big or epic and energetic pop sound you'd be aiming to occupy the whole range. This helps fill the tack and soundstage to give a satisfying aural result. - Jadon

  35. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  36. A: We have a high quality vocal booth, and an assortment of microphones including the Aston Spirit and Sennheiser mk4. Recording into the esteemed SPL Crimson 3, a pure and pristine vocal tone is captured. We work primarily in Logic Pro X, monitoring on high end studio monitors and headphones.

  37. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  38. A: I'm very inspired by artists such as Bishop Briggs, Sigrid, and Jessie J. - Maya I enjoy listening to those who's music pushes boundaries, such as 2wei, Henry Jackman and Jeff Bowman. - Jadon

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  40. A: The most common work I do for clients is vocal recordings and custom songwriting. I absolutely love working with you to create a product we can both be proud of which awakens the desired emotions in the listener. - Maya I take an artist's concept/demo and bring it to life with powerful and bold composition, production, mixing and mastering. I enjoy tailoring the sound to a project's requirements, and making a client very happy! - Jadon
