Interview with Jelle van Snek
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: not really yet but will take a look around here!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: They ask to hear a couple demos
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: LILS ft NIIVES & Haylee - Outcast. This was a song made about my past as a child so it is a personal track but also a track with a lot going on in the vocal layering and instrumental. I produced the song, mixed the full instrumental and also did a big part of the vocal mixdown!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: At this moment I am working on some projects by Kairozmusic and on my own originals and covers!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital, mostly because I ran out of room with my synthesizer collection. would love to own more analoge mixing gear!
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise you that the project will sound huge and clean!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: To sit in the studio and work on music that no one has heard yet is so amazing because u know the song will be touching people in different ways. second to that, I love to get better every day and in this line of work that will happen when u go for it.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That it can be paid in "exposure"
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: what do you want me to fix that u could not do yourself? what level of creative choices can I make? when do I need to deliver?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Send me the project before hand and talk to me about the deadlines and your wishes so i can do my work as good as possible for you!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Computer Genelecs Soundcard Prophet rev2 Virus TI
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been working in the studio on my own music for at least 6 years now and since 1,5 year I started to focus more on mixing for friends
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Warm but Clean
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Would love to work with producers from all different genre's

A: U can pull down your favorite sound by at least 3 dB
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: In the studio I work on a lot of dance related genres like: Hardstyle, Progressive House, Tech House. As a live engineer I am used to deal with a lot more different genres like pop, sing and songwriters and rock.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: my strongest skill is finding the fighting frequencies and other annoying things that can clean up your song or stems.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: What I bring is 2 fresh ears that are really good at finding clashing frequencies. I want to deliver a steady and full mix without it sounding overly full!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I try to make the best mix with balans, panning and eq. when this part is done I will start with the dynamic control processing like compression and dessing. As soon as this is done I will start adding fx to the mix and automate parameters to add some life to your music.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My mix setup is fairly simple, A antelope Discrete 8 Synergy core with 2 Genelec 8040's and 2 dB Opera 208D with a Presonus monitor station in between. The hardware mix gear I use is: a Lexicon reverb a DBX166XL for gating and 2 76-kt's compressors.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I get inspired by a lot of people and professions but based on mixing it has to be: one of my main teachers, Marijn Nikerk followed by big names like Luca Pretolesi, Leslie Braithwaite and Chris Lord Alge.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The type of work that I do the most will be: Vocal mixdowns (see before and after on my profile! after that I guess stem mixing is most common 10-15 stems.
