Gregory Allison on SoundBetter

I create unique violin, viola, and cello compositions and arrangements for your song or film. Listening to you and the needs of the song is important to me. I'm a Berklee grad and have twenty years of performing experience, and over 10 as a professional recording musician.

Remote recording studio for strings. I can provide solo violin, fiddle, or full string sections (violin, viola, cello) for your tracks in any genre. All tracks are recorded at the highest quality in a professional recording studio. I'm classically trained with lots of performance experience in Folk/Americana, South Indian Classical music, Middle Eastern Music, and Eastern European/Balkan folk music. I also offer mandolin.

Make your tracks shine with a full string section, a ripping violin solo, or a beautiful melody to accompany your voice. I listen carefully to you and your music and serve the needs of the song or film.

Fast turnaround time. Easy communication. Professional quality. I can't wait to hear from you!

Greg is extremely professional and timely and has a wonderfully developed personal vocabulary with his violin that is sure to add a special touch to your music. I’ve used Greg on a few string arrangements and it’s amazing to me how he’s able to bring a track to life with all his layering. He’s masterful at pretty much any articulation you can think of and in terms of work flow is also very organized and communicative, which is always very helpful.

Interview with Gregory Allison

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I run a record label called Holy Volcano and I am producing an album for the amazing singer-songwriter Ella Luna. I've also started a video series of live in-studio recordings that will be going up on the label's YouTube Channel. There are two other instrumental albums that will be released on the label this year: one ambient piano and strings record by Tristan de Liege and a folk/Americana album by the trio RAQIA.

  3. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  4. A: Listening. I highly value deep listening and when a client brings me a song, I really want to hear what they hear and serve the needs of the song.

  5. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  6. A: I run a professional studio with control room and isolation booth. I run everything through a 40-channel Allen & Heath board and Neve 1173 preamps. I have a great mic closet, choice outboard gear, and use UAD plugins.

  7. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  8. A: I record violin, viola, cello, and full string sections remotely for songwriters and bands.
