Interview with Manfred "Mani" Pristas
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am working on four different Pop albums for national artists and we rehearse for our upcoming tour with Swiss soul diva "Nubya".
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. Again: It depends on the producer, artist, budget or project. There are no rules.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Tone, Taste, Timing.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Making beautiful music all day long.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Bottle of water.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been doing this now for more than 30 years. I have a formal education in music, but I was always "Rock 'n Roll".
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Tasteful.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Another tough one ... There are so many.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Listen!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: A tough one ... It is mainly in the domain of Pop-Rock.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: To listen.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Creativity, Tone, Taste and Timing.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Often I only get a sketch or a premix. Then it's: Do whatever you think is right. That's what I like best, of course, because that's the best way for me to work creatively in my home studio. In the studio, of course, it's a little different. Usually we get a chord chart or a written out part that we discuss beforehand. We play through the song once or twice and try out different things, see what the producer wants and then it's time to record.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: It's a creative environment where beautiful handmade guitar recordings are made. I use different setups for recording. It depends really on the producer, artist or project.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: All who have found the love of music.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
