Itamar on SoundBetter

Professional clarinetist with years of performing and recording experience. From classical to jazz, world music, funk and pop, I'm a versatile musician and play in any style. I've recorded for many film and TV productions, as well as artists like Ashe and played with Phil Woods, Anat Cohen, Yoni Rechter and many more

Whether it's a woodwind part to add some color to a song, or a featured solo section, I have the musicianship to elevate your song or composition. It can be a written part or you can let me improvise. I will listen to your vision and lay down some clean clarinet recordings for you.

I offer clean and high quality clarinet recordings of any kind in any genre. I also offer my arranging skill to arrange horns or strings or any ensemble for your song / composition. So if you imagine the sound and need someone to make it a reality, I'm your collaborator!

I have performed with many leading musicians around the world including Phil Woods, Anat Cohen, Yoni Rechter and recently recorded solo on Ashe's new music video "Another Man's Jeans". I regularly record music for films in LA and play sessions.

Growing up with classical training, I dove into the world of jazz and improvised music and in the past 20 years I've been exploring all kinds of music.

I graduated Berklee college of music and have been living and working in LA as a session musician and film composer. Going through a diverse journey in music, I play in big variety of genres, from classical to jazz, Brazilian and Balkan music. As a classically trained musician I have great foundations on the instrument, sound, sight reading and interpretation, that gives me flexibility to play in any environment.

I'm a film composer, and although the indie films I score usually have low music budgets--so I use a lot of midi mockups--I like to try to hire a few pro players to bring the score to a higher level. This score featured clarinet several times. Itamar played beautifully, expressively, tracks were recorded at a very professional level, and I got a lot of tracks for the money, helping me to stay in budget. The score to this feature is now far and away better because I hired Itamar.

Interview with Itamar

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Working on "Tom and Jerry in New-York" (Warner Animation) as a lead composer and also clarinet player was one of my favorite projects to work on. Not only it is very nostalgic to be a part of such iconic show with an iconic score with a unique musical language, the music itself is very expressive and free to be "ugly" but funny, edgy, rhythmic and thematic.

  3. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  4. A: It is good to have a clear vision for your music, it doesnt have to be something concrete but a general direction and influence will be helpful for someone like me to understand what your music needs. I have a lot to give, playing style that is very diverse, versatile and flexible, and I can use my skills the best when I can get a narrower direction of thought. We can of course figure things out together too!

  5. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  6. A: With years of experience across genres, I can bring a lot of color to a song. Your song might need a catchy instrumental hook, or a subtle background line, or a burning solo section - I will collaborate with you to know what your song needs and provide my vast expertise to perform it in the highest level. As a composer myself, I know the process of writing too, and can bring that into creating a unique part for your piece or song.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: To serve your music in the best way, communication is the key. First, I will get as detailed descriptions of the music and the role of the clarinet in your track / piece as I can. Then, I get to record. if it's a written part, I should be able to already give you a perfect execution of it recorded in high quality. If you're unsure specifically what you want but pretty confident on the clarinet (which there's no reason you shouldnt be!) I can also arrange the parts for you, improvise, take a solo, and give you variety of options for your song.

  9. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  10. A: Creating in many different musical styles means that I'm influenced by many different things. I love the melodic brilliance of John Williams and the groovy flow of Earth Wind and Fire I grew up listening to jazz, so I love all the jazz greats, from Louis Armstrong and Benny Goodman to John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Michael Brecker and more.

  11. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  12. A: Every piece of music requires it's special treatment. I will take your vision for your music and deliver high quality clarinet recordings. Whether you need some arrangements, or an instrumental solo, in any genre or style, I will help you elevate your music to the next level.
