Interview with Lab. Musical - Gustavo C.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: The best from the two worlds.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Eclectic.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Be the very best I can.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Work and learn with so different people and different tastes! I really grew up!
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: With everyone that feels that I can help to achieve the results.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: 1 - there's no "one rule" for everything except to hear. 2 - be nice to everyone. 3 - get a coffee and have a "bonjour"!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Usually I work with Pop Rock, Rock, Acoustic, HipHop and Electronic Music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Hear and the ability to say "thank you". I'm honored for being a Producer and Audio Eng. I'm honored to have the capacity to study all day to get my results better every day. I'm truly thankful to Universe.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My style and energy.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: First of all is listen. Be inspired by the music and client needs. That's the reason why I allways ask for a ruff mix or demo. Music and the musician allways come first. You may have all the gear in the world, but if you don't have the light, the inspiration and the total comprehension of the artist needs, all that gear doesn't make a thing.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio setup is a hybrid system. Protools HD12, with Mytec 8x192 converters summing with Dangerous Music. Some analogue gear is inserted in the software other is on the away direct - Mytec/Summing. It really depends on what the music need.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I'm focused in Producing, Mixing and Mastering.
