Sound Engineer with a specialisation in Music Production, Arrangement, Mixing and Mastering.
I'm CHARLY SEVEN, formally known as Charl Aspeling, a Cape Town born Sound Engineer & Producer. My primary offering is remote mixing and mastering, composition and arrangement, and - if you've got the right song - I might even lay down some vocals (see Spotify: CHARLY SEVEN).
In 2021, I produced a 13-track mixtape called 'Destiny' for local rapper PsynapsesSTB, it went on to win a local award and was crowned mixtape of the year. Aside to that, I have a steady stream of clients in my local scene, and pushing hard to break in to the international scene, which is why I'm here.
Im ready to work, and I know what Im doing, and I work fast.

Interview with CHARLY SEVEN
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: J Dilla, Kanye West, Dr. Dre, MixedByAli, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: - How can I help you with this record? - What do you want me to do on this record? - Why do you want to make this record? - Who do you want to make this record for? - Primarily, where do you envision this playing? - By when do you want this record?
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: From a music production standpoint, the order of effects change will make or break or record - so pay close attention to it.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Contemporary pop & hip hop are at the top of my list. I actively keep an eye on the contemporary scene to stay abreast with what the global sound is.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I've got a typical home setup: vocal booth, infinite MIDI hardware and an overpriced computer.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Generally, my clients come into studio to record vocal performances for music I've produced. However, it's not uncommon for a client to send me pre-recorded work and simply request Mixing/Mastering service.
I was the Mixing Engineer and Producer in this production
- Mixing EngineerAverage price - $100 per song
- Mastering EngineerAverage price - $100 per song
- Vocal TuningAverage price - $50 per track
I generally look to wrap-up a project within 3 revisions, but there is always space in my diary for that hit song. Typically looking at a 24-28hour turnaround on 'most' projects.
