If you're looking for production, look no further...Chris is the man!! I've had the pleasure of mixing quite a few of his tracks over the years and the way his stuff shows up is basically the template for what I hope to see when I get a mix session going. No fat to trim, every track matters and is well thought out. More importantly, it just sounds GOOD. Highly recommend!

Interview with Chris Liggio

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I am proud of all the work I have done in my career as a music producer, but there are a few projects that stand out for me. One of those was producing an EP for Christian hip-hop artist Angie Rose. It was my first time working in that genre, and the EP was nominated for a Dove award, which was awesome! I was also very proud to produce and perform on my band project, Lipstick Gypsy. The music was our sole creative vision, and we were honored to gain the recognition of industry giants like LA Reid and Salaam Remi, who signed us to a record deal at Epic Records. Earlier in my career, I had the honor of working with the late John Singleton, who trusted me to produce and compose music for his movie Baby Boy.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I'm working on new releases under my artist/producer name, BSMNTPRTY. Stay tuned!

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: I use both analog and digital equipment in my studio. Both have their place, and I find good uses for both.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: You're gonna love the way you sound.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: I love making music.

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: When you hire me, I ask that you have a clear vision and trust my professional perspective. This combination will allow me to deliver the results you want.

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: I was born into a musical family, and my dad is a musician. I spent a lot of time with him on the road and in the studio, where I learned the basics of music production. I started producing tracks as a teenager and hung around a local recording studio that a lot of major artists would record at. Eventually I was able to get my first placement by playing some tracks for an artist named Grand Puba from the group Brand Nubian, which were big at the time. From that relationship I was introduced to a lot of A&R's, artists, and managers in the industry. By maintaining good relationships and continuously staying on the cutting edge of creativity, I've been able to stay consistent in working with the flow of new talent crossing all genres.

  15. Q: How would you describe your style?

  16. A: I'm a musician and my style is all about musicality, melody, and rhythm. I want to make music that stands the test of time, and I think that comes from a combination of those three things.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What have they been listening to lately, what have they been going through lately. Things like that.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: Ableton, Prophet 6, Linndrum, Strat, Juno-60

  21. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  22. A: I'm a big fan of Bruno Mars, John Mayer, Drake, and Harry Styles. I always look forward their new releases. I think we'd make something incredible together.

  23. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  24. A: Create something that doesn't exist yet.

  25. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  26. A: I'm a professional musician who loves making and sharing music. I want to create music that has replay value that's both entertaining and inspiring. If you like what you hear, please contact me.

  27. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  28. A: I love helping artists develop and discover their strong qualities. I do this by creating compelling tracks that inspire a thoughtful song.

  29. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  30. A: I bring a timeless quality to anything I work on. Melody and groove is important to me.

  31. Q: What's your typical work process?

  32. A: First, I start with some chords or a melody line and a basic rhythm. This gives me a foundation to build upon. Next, I add counter melodies, ear candy, drops, fills, or whatever the vibe calls for. These elements help to create a more complete and interesting track.

  33. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  34. A: I built a great studio space in my suburban home. It's surrounded by woods, which provides a serene and inspiring setting for my collaborators when they come over to work. Fully equipped with some vintage synths, a top-tier mic chain and more than enough plug-ins. I use Ableton for producing tracks and Pro Tools for recording vocals.

  35. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  36. A: I'm inspired by the work of Quincy Jones, Max Martin, DJ Premier, the Neptunes, and Steely Dan. Their music has had a profound impact on me, and I strive to incorporate some of their techniques into my own work.

  37. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  38. A: I really enjoy producing and composing tracks. I approach each track as the foundation for a great song.
