Jack was a true pro from start to finish. Despite the significant time difference, we managed to set up a video call and got to work on the song. His expert ear for music and attention to detail really stood out in the final production. The "sounds" and "vibes" he can pull off are pretty nostalgic and electrifying, but his humble approach to collaboration made it easy. Thank you, Jack. I can't wait for our next track!
I have been lucky enough to work with Jack across multiple records, writing sessions and live set performances over the last few years. Jack is an incredibly thorough and multi-talented producer and musician, and has also taken the role of co-musical director for several of my shows. He communicates clear artistic visions, explains his processes, and collaborates easily. Jack consistently displays care and respect, and his studio is always both an incredibly comfortable and productive work space. His genuine love for music and creating is so evident and I adore working with him!
I had the privilege of working with Jack on my debut solo album of original contemporary music for harp. Jack recorded and produced the full album. This experience was an absolute joy throughout. Jack just seemed to understand and comprehend what I wanted from the outset and had incredible intuition around this. He was flexible and adaptable. Jack was consistently respectful in sharing his ideas and always took on my ideas or suggestions with excellent attitude. I hope to be able to work with Jack again in future - he brought my album to life in a way that far exceeded my expectations.
I've worked with Jack across 3 music projects and I think he is absolute gold! I've recorded with some top names in Australia including Lachlan Carrick (Lior, SIA) and Wally De Backer aka Gotye and I would say Jack is as proficient and creative as these guys. He is versatile and loves exploring sounds. In the studio he is fast and has a small but great selection vintage synths, drum machines and acoustic instruments. He also helped design and build my live playback rig which has completely revolutionised my live show. He's super fun to work with too! Recommend highly!!!!
After hearing Jack's work, I decided to take a demo to him and ask for his services to turn it into a fully realized production - and I was not disappointed! He has great equipment, a keen ear and a wealth of musical knowledge to draw from for references and inspiration. More importantly, Jack showed a lot of genuine care for my vision and satisfaction throughout the entire process, offering excellent advice and ideas while maintaining that I should say no to anything that doesn't fit that vision. Because of this, my song turned out even better than I had hoped. Can't recommend him enough!
Jack mastered two of our tracks that have an indie-punk rock sound, and did a great job. The masters sounded great, and were completed with a quick turn around time.

Interview with Jack McLaine
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I’ve never felt boxed in by style. I’ve worked on successful projects in pop, electronic, hip hop, punk, jazz, ambient, works for film/tv, and many more. If it resonates with me and I think I can offer it something, I will work on it.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My collaborative nature.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I always want to impart feeling, whether it’s enhancing what’s already there or bringing in something fresh. I like to think I have a pretty sound judgement about how to get where we need to go. I also really value listening to the artist/client.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: It’s different literally every time. I have principles about creativity, but I try not to have a formula, as every track needs something different. I always seem to work quickly to start with, and as we get closer to the end the tweaks and edits get smaller and slower, but still just as important. Sometimes it feels like making a sculpture.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Heaps of classic analog synths, guitars, basses, and various other instruments. My vocal chain is a Neumann U87 into a Neve1073 Preamp into an SSL E Series Channel (the best vocal chain in the world IMO). I love running things through analog effects and pedals, one of my favs is my Roland SRE555 Chorus Echo Tape Delay. I work with great session players such as live drummers when the project needs it.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Production, co-writing, engineering, vocal production, sound design and programming, mixing, mastering, but usually a combination of the above. Every song and artist needs something different, and usually down to see where I’m most needed in order to get us to the best possible release-ready track.
