I'm Jonathan, and if you are after folk rock jangle, 60's psychedelia, and spontaneous touches that will take your music to new places, I can help. I listen closely and find ways to make your work fulfill its deeper vision.
From down-home twang to the outer limits of space, I am obsessed with psychedelic folk rock country roots and ambient music. I favor emotion, searching, and rawness over polish and perfection. My playing style has been called "Bill Frisell meets Neil Young." 60's garage bands, folk troubadours, spiritual jazz explorers, psychedelic freaks, and blues boogie musicians are my inspiration. If you want to make something original and unique, I'm in. I'm especially adept at taking simple acoustic demos and turning them into full-fledged arrangements with electric guitar, bass, drums, and more.
In addition to 25 years of experience on electric guitar, I play bass, drums, keyboards, and I sing. I've formally studied recording engineering (The Recording Workshop), music theory, arranging, and vocal performance (Miami University). Most importantly, I am built for collaborating with others. Listening to the song, and to the artist, is the most important skill I can offer.
My focus is electric guitar and getting the best analog sounds at the source. I will change the guitar, the amp, the pedal, the picks, and the arrangement before pulling up an EQ plug-in. I prefer to use my DAW like I use my cassette four-track, taking the time to get it right instead of editing 30 takes later. I will provide 24 bit files in 48-96k.
