Interview with Mirek Coutigny
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I'm a classically trained composer and pianist, who always liked to intern over summer in recording studios. I've written for film, been in bands, and record and tour with my own music. Through this all, I discovered a love for the mixing part of the project. I love helping people finish their record, being an extra pair of ears who could maybe point out some things that could be improved.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I respect the work that's been done so far, and strive to make the mix a bigger, more balanced and more 3D version of your rough mix. I'm not reinventing your music, I trust the process that brought you here.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Mixing in pro tools, with a hardware masterbus chain, in a treated room, on Focal Solo 6BE monitors.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I am focused both on mixing music, and producing music that's a hybrid between acoustic and electronic instruments.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Indie pop, Dreampop, Neoclassical, Ambient, Hybrid, Soundtrack
