I am thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of your next project!
I love to work collaboratively, whether it’s executing your specific musical idea, or arranging based on a vibe or musical references you send my way. I’m equally comfortable ready fully notated sheet music, working off of a lead sheet, improvising in a range of different styles, or arranging, notating, and recording scores based on your tracks. I love working on projects of all scales, from tracking solo violin, viola, or guitar, to layering lush orchestral tracks or rich ambient textures and soundscapes.
I use a wide array of top-of-the-line gear that I tailor to the needs of your project and am always happy to take suggestions if there’s a specific instrument or piece of gear you want in your recordings. As the final product deliverable, you will receive high-quality, edited isolated final stems for each part requested.
I’m easy to work with, a transparent communicator, and offer quick turnaround times to make sure to work within your deadlines.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have. I look forward to working with you!

Endorse Pete Lanctot- check_circleVerified
Pete was a dream to work with. I have been making records for 15 years and have always wanted to have strings on a project, but could never crack the code on how to do it affordably. His cv was perfect for what we were going for (70s soul), and he was super quick and communicative.
We received the 10 audio tracks on time and our mixing engineer had a blast adding it to the song. He really nailed it and we will definitely work with him again!

Pete is so talented and expressive with his playing. He takes direction incredibly well and also is great at experimenting when you just give him a rough concept for an idea. A pleasure to work with!

Pete is a phenomenal player! He took the midi strings that I had demoed out for a song and brought them to life with his voila and violin. The recorded strings were high quality and delivered in a very organized fashion. Super professional and super talented!

Just completed a session with Pete and he did a Great Job!
Very easy to work with, Totally Professional and Captures a Great Sound of his instrument.
Also appreciate the separate stems he made for me... that will be helpful for sure during the mix.
I definitely recommend Pete to anyone needing violin tracks for their project and would welcome his talents on any of my future projects.
That should tell you everything you need to know!
Interview with Pete Lanctot
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Chris Donohue is an incredible electric and upright bass player and producer, and is a deeply kind and creative soul. I love working with him and would without question recommend him for all of your low-end needs and to help with creative direction in your project.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Tom Waits, without question.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Spend the time to get the sounds right at the source!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I absolutely love collaboration. I like to have an initial conversation with artists to better understand their music, goals for the project and any references that I should be aware of and to set deadlines and benchmarks.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work from a fully functional home studio, set up with high-quality gear which allows me flexibility in my workflow and to be able to deliver excellent tracks on a quick turnaround time. I also have relationships with many studios around NYC which I utilize for larger projects.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Remote session work tracking violin, viola, acoustic and electric guitars, generally in the Americana, Roots, Folk, Soul and Indie Rock genres. I love tracking anything from solo instrumental parts to full, lush string orchestral string arrangements and richly layered guitar parts.
