Interview with Danny (Braxton)

  1. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  2. A: George Fitzgerald, Dusky, Tinlicker, Sasha, James Holden, Bicep

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: Wrote and mixed a Beatport topping EP released on Anjunadeep earlier this year.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Both.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: As a producer, the thing I love is that you can go from having NOTHING to having something that can inspire a whole generation of people in a matter of hours.

  9. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  10. A: That you need all the hardware in the world to be good at this. You DON'T, but you do need a good set of ears stuck to a wise head.

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: Be as open or as closed as you like. This is your project and I'm just participating in your work.

  13. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  14. A: Swiss army knife, firestarter kit, satellite phone, fishing net, saucepan.....I've seen Naked & Afraid and not one of them had a Pultec EQ

  15. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  16. A: Been writing music for 23 years under different guises, studied Digital Music & Sound Art at university and then spent a few years touring all over the world as a session musician before settling and writing/releasing my own music.

  17. Q: How would you describe your style?

  18. A: My personal music is late 90's inspired progressive house and breakbeat. I try to create as much contrast as possible in my music, its all about keeping things moody and dark but with as much optimism as possible. It's reminiscent of my early days in music.

  19. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  20. A: Four Tet. I just want his stems. I'm curious to see how busy they are.

  21. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  22. A: Production? Work fast. Try and get the the meat and bones of the track before you run out of inspiration.

  23. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  24. A: Dance music, mainly progressive and melodic house and techno.

  25. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  26. A: Mixing, mastering and additional production
