Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. Why not?
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Computer, uad apollo x2, precision bass, headphones, monitors.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I play bass since I was 13, so it's 14 years now. I started studying Electronic Music in 2014 and I opened the studio in 2015. I also organized gigs in one of most important Clubs in Rome (Alcazar Live) for 2 years and managed some artists, so I lived the music industry from different perspectives.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Massive Attack because they are legends. Tiziano Ferro because I love his voice. Dominic Fike as he really impressed me with his version of "The Kiss of Venus" from Paul McCartney.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Try duplicating the main vocal. Then hard-tune one of the 2 tracks, then distort it heavily, then cut the lo-end and put a long reverb in insert. You can try it also with a delay with a good modulation to do it more Dub ;)
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Hiphop/Electronic Music, Indie Soul.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I always try to learn from people I work with.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I always try to contextualize what the artist tries to express in a new, fresh way. For me real art has several reading plans.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I always start with listening. The most important part of the process is understanding what the artist want. Then it's all downhill. The genre strongly affect what comes next: it could be recording an acoustic guitar as programming a drum. I also love starting the production process by processing samples heavily.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work in a studio called Pyramid Produzioni, here in Rome. We use Antelope Orion 32+ as interface and Dynaudio Lyd 48 as main monitors. For the basslines I love to play my Fender Precision USA with Galli Black Nylon Strings. I've an Ampeg B2R + Cabinet 4x8” as bass amp, which I really like. I produce using Nuendo 11 and a lot of amazing plugins as FabFilter, Soundtoys, Universal Audio, Arturia, just to name a few. Gear-wise we are pretty covered, we have a lot of amazing mic, preamps, synths, etc Some example: . Mics - Neumann U87, Schoeps cmc6, AKG 414 XLII, Neumann Km184, Coles 4038, Electro Voice Re20, etc. . Preamp - Avalon 737, Api 512_500, Neve 1073_500, Universal Audio solo 610, Focusrite Isa 4ch, etc. . Outboard - Neve 5043, SSL bus compressor modulo 500, Universal Audio 1176, etc. . Synths - Moog Sub37, Korg Ms20 mini, etc.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I like a lot of different genres. The producers I'm listening to the most in this period are Fred Again..., Kaytranada, Mura Masa, Jim-E Stack. Paul McCartney, James Jamerson and Pino Palladino are a point of reference for me with regard to bass. I love The Beatles, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Massive Attack and MacMiller.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I work mainly as a producer but almost every time I end up recording the bassline for the songs too ;)
