Harry McKenzie on SoundBetter

I can perform screaming vocals (primarily black metal style) for your project. I will record vocals against your demo track and send you back standalone .wav vocal tracks both with effects and dry should you like to add your own effects or leave it to your sound engineer. I am also open to writing lyrics if you need this too.

Vocals in the style of Emperor, Gorgoroth etc. Listen to the example track from my band "Olde Throne". I can also program drums for you. Or even create full songs with guitars, bass, programmed drums and vocals in metal style - for your use in video games, youtube videos, streams or whatever you need original music for.

I can write lyrics for your track if needed, contact me to see examples of lyrics I have written.

Contact me through the green button above and let's get to work.

Really competent extreme metal vocalist! Easy to work with and was able to take input while adding his own style to create a great result. Thanks for the collaboration, Harry!

Interview with Harry McKenzie

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Olde Throne's first album. It was my first release and it was good enough for a label to sign me and release the album which made me very proud.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Olde Throne's second album

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Hugo Ribeiro. Awesome drummer.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Analog. 90's True Norwegian Black Metal is my happy place.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I will do my best to achieve the sound you are after, and I can make as many changes as you like.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Music is my number one passion, it is not a job. I would continue to make music every day even if I won the lottery.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Q: "Can you do vocals in the style of *insert artist here*?" A: I do vocals in the style of me, my own voice, listen to my example audio to hear what that sounds like

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Scream my throat out. There is a technique to the vocal style that means I can do it for hours on end without losing my voice.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What sort of sound are you trying to achieve? Give me some examples.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Listen to the example audios and find the artist that you will think be the closest sound to the style you are trying to achieve. While the session musicians with the most expensive prices may be that way because they have the most expensive production gear and expereience credited to back up their price - their sound may not be what you are looking for. (i.e; don't hire an expensive experienced vocalist who does great brutal death metal style vocals if you want your track to sound like darkthrone or gorgoroth, it is a completely different style)

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Laptop, simple interface for guitars, guitar, bass and a microphone. The only 5 items I need to make simple honest metal.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: Very recently have I started to build my own studio and start taking my own music somewhere. Until then my music was mostly a side hobbie since school with some recording in professional studios.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: High pitch vocal shrieks over dark and moody instrumental soundscapes

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Gaahl - The greatest voice in metal in my humble opinion

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Don't rush a composition

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Metal, primarily black but also open to death and really open to Doom Metal

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Song composition and black metal style vocals

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Dark atmosphere and haunting vocals

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: To write a song I will start with jamming on guitar until I find some riffs I like, program drums to each riff and work from there at bringing it all together.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: Focusrite interface Reason 11 Suite DAW Condenser Mic ESP Guitars Neural DSP: Archetype Gojira

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Teloch (Mayhem) Gaahl's Wyrd Darkthrone Emperor Saor Behemoth

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Metal Vocal Tracks Full instrumental compositions
